Abram then set out for Canaan together with his wife and Nephew Lot by name. Canaan is made up of 7 cities (Canaanites, Amorites, Hittites, Jebusites, Hivites, Perizzites, and Girgashites). Canaan located between Syria and Egypt also encompassed Lebanon, Gaza and Jordan. This inhabitants were to be killed for the new nation to possess all of it.
Palestine/Philistia are the inhabitants of Gaza. Abraham finally had a son but not of his wife Sarah whom God said will birth the new nation but of her maid Haggai. Ishmael and his mother was sent to the desert towards Iraq Abraham's country. Later Isaac the promised child was born. It was enroute the Journey that God renewed the convenant He made with His Fathers Abraham and Isaac. It was during the years he lived with his uncle that he married his two wives amidst controversies. Jacob after a while came back to Canaan and settled in schecem. Jacob's name was later changed to Israel after wrestling with an Angel. Jacob's life as a man was filled with struggles, cheated by his Uncle laban, to living in fear that his brother might kill him, to living with two wives he hadn't planned for. His two wives never gave him peace and always fought each other. It was after this Struggle with the Angel that dislocated his hip. This is very significant as it shows that he needed to acknowledge his weakness as man and depend on God. This is how the nation of the Israelites the new nation was established but at this time were yet to possess the 7 cities of Canaan. Jacob now Israel had 12 sons which makes up the 12 tribes of Israel. Joseph was sold into slavery in Egypt who later became a governor. His brothers together with their father Israel went up to Him in Egypt during the famine in Canaan. They stayed in Egypt mainly in Goshen till the new Pharoah who knew them not came and hated them, they decided to head back to Canaan but Pharoah refused and subjected them to slavery instead. Till God appointed Moses to lead the Israelites out. Moses grew right inside the palace, it was all planned by God. He ran away from Egypt after killing the Egyptian that fought with an Israelite. The two Israelites that saw him carry out the act accused him of it and he ran away for years further delaying their days in slavery before finally coming back. He led them out but due to the sins of the Israelites as they Journeyed in the wilderness back to Canaan, God got angry at them and told them none of them will make it back to Canaan but their children instead. They kept compassing around Sinai for Forty Years before they eventually made it back. the Israelites entered Canaan, settling at first in the hill country and in the south. The first city they took was Jericho.The Israelites’ infiltration was opposed by the Canaanites, who continued to hold the stronger cities of the region. In the following century, Canaan suffered further invasion at the hands of the Philistines/Palestines who appear to have come from Crete. They eventually established a coalition of five city-states on the southern coast of Canaan. Under the leadership of King David (10th century BCE), the Israelites were finally able to break the Philistine power and at the same time to vanquish the native Canaanites, taking the city of Jerusalem. Thereafter Canaan became, for all practical purposes, the Land of Israel.
Ironically, Jericho (along with the Gaza Strip) was the first territory given to the Palestinians by Israel as part of the Oslo peace agreement in 1994. Before the outbreak of the Palestinian War in 2000, the Palestinian Authority had been developing the town in hopes of making it a major tourist attraction, most notably erecting a large casino and hotel at the outskirts of the city.

Must be fulfillment of punishment, something along that line. The problem with some people esp Muslims is that they think History started in 1946. They don't know how the name came into existence to begin with. The name Israel is older than Palestine.
Canaan is older than both. Some claim Philistians are same as Palestinians which is not true, it's important to know that neither Philistians nor Israelites are the original inhabitants of the land of Canaan. Canaan was Invaded by the Israelites after many years in Slavery in Egypt so did Philistias who are originally from Crete. This why Philistia clashed so many times with the Israelites. Israel failed to kill all the inhabitants of the 7 major tribes of Canaan but instead lived with them and ruled over them when David finally subdued the whole of Canaan and established the kingdom of Israel. Solomon solidified the kingdom, and built God's temple in Jerusalem Where all the inhabitants of Israel worshipped. Now it's somehow believed that this original inhabitants of Canaan along with migrants from neighboring Syria Lebanon and Jordan make up Palestine. It was under the Roman Empire that the name Palestine came about. The Roman Empire was a very bad time for the Israelites, Muslims now claim that Israelites came back to Palestine as they now call Canaan as refugees. That Palestine was the only people that accommodated them when they were chased all over Europe. Isn't it funny. The same Canaan that the Israelites has lived and ruled over for many years.
