The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has been appointed as the Chairman of the African Governors’ Forum of the World Bank.

The African Governors’ Forum is a platform for African finance ministers and central bank governors to engage with the World Bank on issues of mutual interest.

The African Caucus was established in 1963 to strengthen the voice of African Governors.

A statement by the Federal Ministry of Finance on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, said that this marks the first time Nigeria has assumed the role of Chairman in 60 years.

It said: ‘’World Bank Appointment: Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Mr. Wale Edun has been appointed to Chair the African Governors’ Forum of the World Bank.

“This marks the first time Nigeria has assumed the role of Chairman in 60 years.

‘’The appointment presents a unique opportunity for Nigeria and the implementation of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.’’

According to the IMF’s guiding principles for the caucus, the forum’s Chairman is determined by rotation based on the alphabetical order of African countries.

This system ensures that each country takes its turn to lead the group, preventing one nation from chairing the forum twice while others have yet to assume the role.

Nice one. Hands of applause.

Even if Atiku or Peter Obi the party entertainer or political evangelist try so hard to tarnish the image of this country by their unwarranted 'world' press conference, the whole world is watching and knows very well that Tinubu is innocent and anything associated with him is perfect.

Tinubu is all about painting the country beautiful and good to the outside world. Whereas Atiku and Obi are bent on spoiling the image of this country together with the labourers.

This appointment is just one among the many to come.

Bobo Chicago will bring goodies to Nigeria.

Which African countries? Egypt is generating 59,000 megawatts while Nigeria is generating 5,000 megawatts. World bank is not the problem. Nigerians keep electing clueless leaders.

Has the appointment change the price of food stuffs in the market? A kg of gas ⛽️ is now #1200. It has not raised to this level before? Inflation of food commodities is at high prices now.

This seems like a conflict of interest? Please he should reject it. Why is World Bank setting up such a body? It doesn’t seem right at all. Especially when they are creditors to those countries.

It has absolutely nothing to do with his personal capacity

He is not in anyway qualified to work at the world Bank, not at all

Congratulations 🎊 sir on your new appointment. It is hoped that the suppressive and anti-developing countries mechanisms of the "World" Bank and other "International" financial bodies, especially the IMF, will be changed to permit development of developing countries.
