NSCDC missed it when they left their core mandate of protecting and securing the nation's critical assets and started flexing muscles with Police and other security agencies. Those Dane guns and outdated military weapons that were given to them made their heads swell as though they were at par with other conventional security and intelligence outfits. NSCDC has no business bearing arms as their core duty is that of civil intervention. They should drop arms and be sent to schools, Markets, Schools, Mosques, Churches, Govt offices and places of state functions to help maintain public peace and tranquility.

The real enemy of your Peace Corps is the Nigerian Police Force. Yes, the same Nigerian Police Force that almost choked Civil Defence to death and forced them not to see light of day plus still attacking their personnels relentlessly even after their federalization.

NSCDC has not only Safe Schools Initiatives for schools. They also have Agro- Rangers Units for mitigating farmers-herders crisis and securing Agro-Allied investments wherever they're needed all over Nigeria. You do know they have CNAI functions too, don't you? That's Critical National Assets & Infrastructure functions whereby they have mandate to secure national assets as large as airports and as basicly tiny as MTN masts.

As it is, they're understaffed, under-trained, unrelated underpayed under clueless leadership. I know before I made good money off them from a few contracts a bit over a decade ago and still maintain ties. Ministry of Interior and their Board has been sponging off them with no regards to their welfare and kitting. That's why you can be underating them like that.

NSCDC used to do this back in the '90s. I attended an all-boys school in Aba in those days and there were a lots of gangbangers, rascals, truants amongst us (including me typing this ) Students whose level of deviancy was beyond what school admisntrators could handle . NSCDC operatives would often disguise as school students and pick up the worst of the lot one-by-one.
