No Plans To Displace Northerners In Lokpanta Cattle Market, Says Gov. Otti by Metrix147: 12:10pm On Oct 17, 2023
Abia State government has denied report that it has directed Northerners, who live and conduct their businesses at the Lokpanta Cattle Market, located along the Enugu-Umuahia-Aba-Port Harcourt Expressway by Umunneochi, to leave the state.

The state government described the report as false, saying there was no iota of truth in the "fake news" as those Northerners "are the second and third generations of Igbos" living in Lokpanta.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Navy Commander Macdonald Ubah (rtd), made this clarification while briefing Journalists at the Government House, Umuahia, on Monday, a statement by Kazie Uko the chief press secretary to the Governor said in a statement.

Uko quoted Ubah as noting that the Lokpanta-Uturu axis of the state has been under siege by criminal elements in the last couple of years, prompting the major steps recently taken by the State Government to eliminate the spate of kidnappings and other criminal activities in the area.

It added, "He said preliminary investigation points to the Lokpanta Cattle Market as a major hideout for all kinds of individuals involved in different criminal activities, including kidnappings, organ harvesting, armed robbery, and other violent crimes.

"The retired Naval Commander said ransom for kidnap victims around the Uturu-Umunneochi axis were paid in the market, a situation which prompted the government to, among other measures, carry out deliberate actions including demolition of brothels and shanties in the market.

"Ubah, who described Governor Alex Otti, OFR, as a detribalised Nigerian, having appointed non-Abians into his cabinet, noted that most of the cattle dealers in the state are second and third generations of Igbos, and therefore the Governor Otti-led government could not have given such directive.

"He said that the stand of government is that the market would no longer be residential, but a daily market. He maintained that government's decision to make the Lokpanta Cattle Market a daily market is in the interest of the citizens and the cattle dealers, adding that government will not rescind the decision.

The question is; why was this plan nursed in the first place?

Very funny pipu.

Laying total claim to everything in their land as if the world starts and end there. Yet, on another man's soil, there is still no peaceful coexistence because claims are also laid to almost everything.

Market is not supposed to be residential now, it's a place to trade.

If you have been to this kind of settlement, you will know what these people are capable of undecided

Talk of kidnapping, charms, dirtiness while the authority arrest innocent people in that settlement

There is no proper supervision undecided

Lagos State knows how to keep them on the leash. I wish Alex Otti the best, he is doing well! God bless and protect you!!!

Governor Alex Otti is doing well. His recent appointment of a prominent Anambra businessman as the mayor of Aba ie Chief Executive of the 5 Aba LGAs, is a welcome development. He should go further to compensate Anambra indigenes sacked from the Abia civil service by the former terrorist governor of Abia, Theodore Orji.

You are the funny person here because you don't know why the idea was nursed if actually it was nursed.
You are even asking why nursing the idea. To a sensible human that knows that place, the idea should not only be nursed but in toto executed without leaving any stone unturned.
They should be moved to a place near a residential City or town.
Reason:
About 60% of Kidnappings in the South East happens along that Axis, they no born you well to drive along that place after 7pm with speed below 80km/h. You what that means.
If they are relocated to a near city center we would know where water take de enter boat

The governor has said "no such plan was ever conceived" and you're still asking why the plan was nursed.

You particularly take delight in fomenting chaos on nairaland along tribal lines and I don't know what you benefit from sowing seeds of hate and discord amongst people on internet platforms.
