As part of its effort to further press for the immediate review and lifting of over 20-year-old sanctions against the Republic of Zimbabwe, the leadership of the dAll-African Students Union (AASU) has unveiled activities for a planned solidarity visit to Zimbabwe as part of the students’ advocacy for the lifting of sanctions against the country, including a rally in Harare.

AASU President, Osisiogu Osikenyi, disclosed this at a World Press Conference in the union's headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria, on Thursday.

He noted that the students, drawn from across Africa, will arrive Harare on Monday.

Standing on their earlier reasons for the advocacy for the review of the sanctions, especially around the four-key reform pillars put in place by the President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa administration, the students reiterated their call for the lifting of the sanctions to enable Zimbabwe to progress at the same pace with other African countries.

Insisting that Zimbabwe may be able to procure arms to protect her territorial integrity as a result of the lingering decades of sanctions, AASU called all youth leaders in the country to join their planned rally in Harare.

The students disclosed that about 50 students and youth leaders from across Africa will be part of the trip ahead of their rally, vigil, and a world press conference, inviting the media and other stakeholders, students and youth leaders in the country, to be part of their planned activities to press for the immediate lifting of the sanctions from October 24 to 26 in Harare.
