A Two-Year-Old Baby has died after falling off a school’s building in Aba, Abia State.

David Etim Udo reportedly fell off from the third floor of the three-story building and crashed on the floor. He suffered head and body injuries.

The child was said to have been rushed to a nearby hospital where he was confirmed dead.

Emerald International School, located off Crystal Park Road, off Port Harcourt, in Aba South local government area of the state, is a private school that has both pre-nursery, nursery, primary and secondary school sections in the same compound.

The Abia State Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Maureen Chinaka, confirmed the sad incident to The Nation, saying: “On the evening of October 17, 2023, at approximately 2000hrs, Mr Jacob Etim Udo, residing at Ugwumba Street, Aba, accompanied by two individuals, arrived at the Ndiegoro Divisional Headquarters with the heartbreaking news of his son David’s tragic accident.

“David, a pupil of Emerald International School located by Crystal Park Road, Aba, was reported to have fallen from a school building, leading to his untimely demise.

“David was swiftly rushed to the hospital, but despite the best efforts of medical personnel, he tragically succumbed to his injuries.

“The child’s body has been recovered and placed for autopsy as part of our ongoing investigation. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a comprehensive and discreet inquiry to unravel the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate incident.

“We understand the concerns and emotions that this incident has stirred within the community. We want to assure the public that a meticulous investigation is underway to uncover the truth.

“We urge everyone to remain calm and patient as we conduct this inquiry. The authorities are committed to a transparent and thorough examination of the facts, and we will keep the public informed of significant developments.

WHY WOULD A CRECHE BE ON THE FIRST FLOOR? WHY? angry angry

SUE THE OWNERS OF THE CRECHE FOR GROSS NEGLIGENCE!!!!

UNFORTUNATELY NIGERIA IS LAWLESS SO IF THE CRECHE OWNERS HAVE MORE MONEY THAN THE PARENTS WELL THEY WILL GO FREE AND NOTHING WILL HAPPEN.

THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS IN A COUNTRY WERE JUSTICE IS FOR SALE cry

So sad. Very sad. These kids should not be schooling in highrise buildings. They like to explore. They would climb barriers without sense of risks. To think that guardians were there. May his young soul rest in peace, amen! cry cry

The proprietor should be held responsible! How do you situate a crèche on the 3rd floor of a building?? That's quite reckless! The parents too have their own share of the blame because they knew the location of the crèche and still left their boy there.....quite unfortunate that the innocent boy had to pay with his life for lessons to be learnt.

Hmmmmm, why should the creche class upto nursery be on the upper floor, what if there is need for evacuation, how many kids can a teacher carry or how fast can the pupils run out??
How come the parents such class room for their baby, or is the school one of such schools that won't allow parents visit their ward's classroom?
Condolences to the family.

Normally, baby classes should be on the ground floor. Minders in each class should be at least 2 or 3. They are tiny, little, sneaky creatures you won't know when they will slip by you and go wreak atrocities. They're not to be blamed because they don't know any better. The adults around will always take the fall; Davido's late Ifeanyi came to mind (I'm sorry I have to refer to him) Adults should NEVER lose guard around tiny tots.

May God comfort his family.

It is such a pity. Rest in peace to the small boy. May God comfort the Mum and Dad.

The schools using highrise buildings must immediately do full handrail from down up in all balconies. And also do strong burglary proofs in all Windows. By so doing no child can fall off.

A Primary or Daycare on a third floor is asking for such an unfortunate incident. As a parent, there is no way that I will enroll my child in such school.
