Umo Eno, PDP Moves to Petition The Appointment Of Etekamba Umoren as Akwa Ibom INEC REC

The political landscape of Akwa Ibom State is ablaze with controversy following the recent appointment of Sir Etekamba Umoren as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Residential Electoral Commissioner for the state. The appointment which is believed to be facilitated by the former Governor, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has sparked outrage from the current Governor, Pst. Umo Eno, and the Akwa Ibom State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The leaked information from a source within the Government House has revealed the deep discontentment felt by Governor Umo Eno and the PDP regarding Umoren's appointment. The source, who opted to remain anonymous, disclosed the Governor's concerns over what he perceives as a biased selection process by the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio. Governor Umo Eno expressed his frustration, stating that Akpabio's actions are undermining the democratic principles of nonpartisanship, as key positions are allegedly being filled based on political affiliations rather than merit.

"Akpabio is becoming very biased every day. He is now appointing people from his tribe into positions that should be occupied by nonpartisan individuals, just to control Akwa Ibom State as he pleases. As the Governor of Akwa Ibom State and the PDP, we cannot stand idly by and allow this erosion of democracy," Governor Umo Eno passionately remarked.

Governor Umo Eno further emphasized their commitment to upholding the principles of democracy and ensuring a level playing field for all political parties in the state. In response to what he sees as a clear injustice, he announced their intention to file a petition seeking the dismissal of Sir Etekamba Umoren as the Akwa Ibom INEC Residential Electoral Commissioner.

The controversy has raised concerns among various political circles, with many questioning the transparency and fairness of the appointment process. The PDP, in particular, is steadfast in its resolve to challenge what it perceives as a violation of democratic norms. The party's leadership has vowed to take legal action to rectify the situation and restore confidence in the electoral process within the state.
