The French magazine France Football presents the annual Ballon d’Or, which is seen as the most important individual honor in the sport.

The distinguished award was first given out in 1956, and the custom has persisted ever since. Stanley Matthews of England was the inaugural winner of the honor.

Over the past 15 years, Messi and his former rival Cristiano Ronaldo have won the coveted men’s prize 13 times apiece, dominating the field. Fourteen years ago, just five years into his senior professional career, Messi took home his first Ballon d’Or.

I can't wait. Messi doesn't really need another Balon D'or, but since we deserve it, who are we to say no? If Haaland eventually wins it, though, I will be very happy for him. But we all know who deserve it. Shout out to everybody who loves football.
