Barrister Uju Kennedy Ohaneye is the Minister for Women Affairs.

Uju Kennedy Ohanenye @BarrUjuKennedy

It was a historic breakthrough as the Ministry brokered peace among the 3 warring communities of Koro, Hausa and Fulani in Kagarko LGA in Kaduna State to end 20 years of crisis through mechanized communal farming activities. The Ministry will provide 100 acres of land for high-yield rice and potato farming to re-channel the energy of indigenes to farming instead of war

Isa Ozo Mustapha is the Special Assistant on Strategic Communications to the Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani.

KDSG CAUTIONS THE PUBLIC AGAINST MISLEADING MEDIA REPORTS INVOLVING THE MINISTER OF WOMEN AFFAIRS @BarrUjuKennedy ON ALLEGED CRISIS IN KAGARKO LGC

The attention of the Kaduna State Government has been drawn to erroneous and misleading media reports claiming a breakthrough by Barrister Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, the Minister of Women Affairs in brokering peace among three alleged warring factions of Koro, Hausa and Fulani in Kagarko Local Government to end a “20 year old crisis.”

The Kaduna State Government urges the good people of Kaduna State and Nigerians to disregard the erroneous and dangerous rhetoric unfortunately reported by some media stations without verifying the facts. These reports are capable of creating confusion and igniting crisis in Kagarko Local Government Area.

For the avoidance of doubt, it should be noted by the public that there is no crisis in Kagarko Local Government Area. In fact, Kagarko Local Government Area has enjoyed peace and harmony over the years and remains one of the most peaceful LGAs in the state.

Additionally, the Kaduna State Government has received credible reports indicating that the ill-conceived plot was the handiwork of members of a leading opposition party with the aim to fraudulently extort the Federal Government. They approached the Minister of Women Affairs and created a false impression of disharmony and crisis in Kagarko LGA.

The Minister, without verifying their bogus claims and in the absence of officials from Kagarko Local Government and the Kaduna State Government, made official pronouncements, and went to the ridiculous extent of promising parcels of land and even seedlings to the conspirators.

The Kaduna State Government is disappointed and shocked by the ill-advised actions of the Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, who with her experience as a public servant and knowledge as an Attorney at Law, should have applied caution and professionalism by contacting the Kaduna State Government to get the accurate information on the situation in those communities.

In line with the strategic vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Kaduna State Government led by Governor Uba Sani is assiduously working in partnership with Federal Security Agencies and other Federal Government Ministries to promote peace, stability and socio-economic development of Kaduna State and will not allow any ill-conceived actions by external influences to jeopardize these efforts.

Muhammad Lawal Shehu
Chief Press Secretary To The Governor of Kaduna State.

Communal Crisis: Disregard stories of minister’s intervention in Kaduna – Official

The state government said media reports about the incident were erroneous and misleading.

By Mohammed Babangida November 6, 2023

The Kaduna State government has refuted stories in the media that the minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, reconciled warring communities in Kagarko Local Government.

The state government called the alleged media reports “erroneous” and “misleading” and advised the public to disregard them.

PREMIUM TIMES gathered that the federal government announced a breakthrough in ending a 20-year-old communal crisis involving the Toro, Fulani and Hausa communities in the local government.

The head of press and public relations at the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation, Grace Njoku, explained how the women affairs minister brokered peace in a statement released on 2 November.

“The Honourable Minister of Women Affairs, Barrister (Mrs) Uju Kennedy Ohanenye in a Peace Accord meeting held today with representatives of the three communities in her office in Abuja, stated that without peace, there can be neither growth nor meaningful development in any nation.

“She informed that the meeting witnessed formal endorsement of a pact by the three communities to underscore their resolve to put down their arms and pursue peace through the use of mechanized communal farming, a move which she said is pursuant to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on National Unity, Cohesion and Tolerance, in line with the vision of the nation’s founding fathers,” the statement added.

“Misleading report”- Kaduna government

But in a statement, Mohammed Lawal, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor of Kaduna State, claimed that the minister was deceived by members of an opposition political party in the area.

While noting that such reports can create confusion, the state government said there are no crises in Kagarko Local Government.

“Additionally, the Kaduna State Government has received credible reports indicating that the ill-conceived plot was the handiwork of members of a leading opposition party with the aim to fraudulently extort the Federal Government. They approached the Minister of Women Affairs and created a false impression of disharmony and crisis in Kagarko LGA.

”The Minister, without verifying their bogus claims and in the absence of officials from Kagarko Local Government and the Kaduna State Government, made official pronouncements and went to the ridiculous extent of promising parcels of land and even seedlings to the conspirators.

”The Kaduna State Government is disappointed and shocked by the ill-advised actions of the Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, who with her experience as a public servant and knowledge as an Attorney at Law, should have applied caution and professionalism by contacting the Kaduna State Government to get the accurate information on the situation in those communities,’ the statement said.

The governor’s spokesperson added that the state government is working ‘assiduously’ with federal security agencies and other federal ministries to promote peace, stability and socio-economic development of the state.

Backstory

Kagarko is in the southern part of Kaduna State, a district that has witnessed a series of ethno-religious crises for over two decades.

The crisis became more pronounced with the farmers and herders clashes becoming a norm in the central part of Nigeria.

In recent years, banditry has been added to the list of security situations in the district that has a Christian majority, but there are sizable Muslim communities and some traditionalists.

The immediate former governor of the state, Nasir El Rufai, had running battles with leaders of the district for allegedly marginalising the people of the district.

Kaduna govt blasts women affairs minister over misleading claims on communal crisis

The Kaduna State Government has blasted the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, for making false and misleading claims about a communal crisis in Kagarko Local Government Area.

In a press statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Muhammad Lawal Shehu, the state government said that the minister was deceived by some members of a leading opposition party, who approached her and created a false impression of disharmony and crisis in Kagarko LGA.

The statement read in part: “The attention of the Kaduna State Government has been drawn to erroneous and misleading media reports claiming a breakthrough by Barrister Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, the Minister of Women Affairs in brokering peace among three alleged warring factions of Koro, Hausa and Fulani in Kagarko Local Government to end a ‘20 year old crisis.’”

The government said that there was no crisis in Kagarko LGA and that the media reports were part of a plot by the opposition to extort the federal government.

“The Kaduna State Government urges the good people of Kaduna State and Nigerians to disregard the erroneous and dangerous rhetoric unfortunately reported by some media stations without verifying the facts. These reports are capable of creating confusion and igniting crisis in Kagarko Local Government Area,” the statement added.

The government accused the minister of falling for the scheme of the conspirators, who promised her political support in exchange for her intervention.

“The Minister, without verifying their bogus claims and in the absence of officials from Kagarko Local Government and the Kaduna State Government, made official pronouncements, and went to the ridiculous extent of promising parcels of land and even seedlings to the conspirators,” the state government also said.

The government expressed its disappointment and shock at the actions of the minister, who it said should have applied caution and professionalism as a public servant and an attorney at law.

The statement said: “The Kaduna State Government is disappointed and shocked by the ill-advised actions of the Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, who with her experience as a public servant and knowledge as an Attorney at Law, should have contacted the Kaduna State Government to get the accurate information on the situation in those communities.”

The government said that it was working in partnership with the federal government and security agencies to promote peace, stability and development in the state and would not allow any external influences to jeopardize these efforts.

Is it because its a woman?

Or is it just because she's an Igbo woman?

Couldn't they have reached out to her privately and have her issue a disclaimer after carrying out due diligence?

Uju Kennedy will be the first Minister to be shown the way out. That woman seems confused. It is either she is meddling in the matters of another Ministry or she is quarreling. My comment is not necessarily about the post.

Comot hand from 'their' matter. They are not happy with the peace accord. What a shame! How the state government could not explore official medium of communication rather than issuing a public notice is very baffling. Shame! sad

Omo, Government is hard, public service isn't easy
..
.
There's more to this... You need to have good and very smart politicians as advisers for you to perform as a Technocrat in Government...... Else, you'll make expensive errors & be on the defensive always.
..
.
As regards this issue, both parties ( minister & kd Gov ) are wrong & right at the same time....

Rice, rice, rice, rice!

Something Nigeria has no competitive advantage in. That is why our rice is expensive.

There are other agricultural produce the country does well. Why not focus on those the country does well.

Differ = disagree.

1) There was a crisis in these local governments and I brokered peace.

2) There was no crisis in these local governments.

Politics aside, what does the Ministry of 'women's affairs' have to do with communal clashes? Besides, in the meeting, there was no single woman.

Why?
Is it because she's not giving you rice and maize?
If someone claims to have mediated peace, how is that something to hassle on if not that the state govt is jobless?
The fruits of a peaceful land can't be hidden neither can that of a warring land.
I don't understand why the state govt is so pissed about this matter if there's nothing else we're not being told
