The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), on Friday, commenced the Iddo-Ibadan-Ilorin route passenger express train. Speaking at a news conference in Ibadan, Rasheed Gbadamosi, the Railway District Manager (RDM), said that the journey was another milestone in the revival of the rail system in the country. According to him, the train which can carry 90 passengers in each of its six coaches, will run every Friday while the return journey from Ilorin–Iddo, Lagos, will be on Sundays. Gbadamosi said the corporation had earlier in the year commenced the weekly passenger train services from Iddo to Ibadan on Fridays and Ibadan to Lagos on Sundays. He said it had also commenced weekly haulage of 600 metric tonnes to Osogbo, adding that arrangements had been concluded to ensure an additional weekly haulage of 600 tonnes to Ilorin. On the security of passengers, the district manager said the NRC had put in place Railway District Police Officers and Man O’ War in all its districts. “I want to assure Nigerians that the NRC will not rest on its oars until full resumption of freight and passenger services are restored on all our routes throughout the length and breadth of the country,” Gbadamosi said. http://dailytimes.com.ng/article/nrc-commences-lagos-ibadan-ilorin-express-train |
