In what appears to be a follow-up of the protest by unemployed graduates over the high level of unemployment and poor state of infrastructure in Delta State, the delta state House of Assembly members have adjourn sitting indefinitely to protest the high rate of unemployment and infrastructural decay. They said that those who voted for them are complaining seriously and they may become victim of the planed revolution.
The action of the law makers have been described by political observers as a diplomatic vote of no confidence on the Governor because most of the law makers are in PDP.

Lawmakers in Delta State are protesting the continued decay of infrastructure in the country.

The Assembly yesterday passed a resolution adjourning sine dine (indefinitely) until Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan orders contractors to complete their projects.

The Assembly resumed yesterday after over 10 weeks recess.
http://www.thenationonlineng.net/2011/index.php/news/24379-delta-assembly-protests-poor-state-of-roads.html

The legislature deplored “poor state of roads” and “drainage network” in Asaba-the capital and slammed contractors for tardiness.

This decision followed a motion by Johnson Erijo (Isoko South II),who sought to amend an earlier motion by Dennis Omuvie (Warri South 11) to summon the contractors.

Erijo said contractors had refused to complete their jobs, adding that some of the contracts were awarded more than three years ago.

He noted that some of the uncompleted road projects, especially the Ughelli-Asaba dualisation, had become a death trap and called for speedy completion of the projects.

“The road is in a very bad shape and many people are killed there daily and if nothing is done more lives will be lost.

“The people, who voted us into office, are not happy with them because of the poor state of infrastructure and the menace of flooding in Asaba,” Erijo said.

The motion, which was adopted, was seconded by Majority Leader Monday Igbuya (Sapele).

Before the adjournment, the lawmakers approved the upward review of salaries of some political appointees attached to the governor, to bring their emoluments at par with those of commissioners.

The approval was sequel to a request by the governor through a letter, which was read by Speaker Victor Ochei durin

The law makers are already feeling the heat of unemployment in their constituency. Those who moved the motion have been kidnapped by area boys in the past and they were released after parting ways with huge amount of money

Peter Obi was once impeached for "gross misconduct". That, or gross incompetence and/or serious maladministration, should take care of Uduaghan. He is clearly the worst Governor in Nigeria currently and events around the world shows that people's power is dealing efficiently with repressive and callous leaders like him. I praise the unemployed Graduates who started the protests. This should be the way forward for Nigeria i.e Nigerians holding their leaders accountable instead of leaders holding lavish Parties while sycophants have 50 page newspaper exaltations in their honour when poverty, they have caused or done nothing to alleviate, is the lot of the people.

Asaba drainage problem is just a smoke screen, the major problem in delta state is poverty and hunger. They should be bold enough to tell the governor the reason why the electorates in their various constituencies are angry with them. What concerns a hungry man in Sapele with the drainage problem at Asaba.
who is suppose to carry out oversight function to ensure that the contractors are doing their job as approved by they house.

These law makers were part of the problem , their political ambition in 2015 is bleak that is why they are not comfortable because unemployed youths who are the majority will ambush them at the poll

@UYCO

My guy, well done. You are a true son of your State. What you are doing is the way forward. We should all hold our respective leaders accountable. Events around the world should show us that persevering with misrule , while 'praying' and gambling on 'goodluck', will not get us anywhere.

Many decades of moving backward should now make us realise that taking on leaders , fire for fire, may be the only way to secure the development we crave. Look at how they fall over themselves trying to appease and dialogue with Boko Haram yet they quickly overule an SNC that may allow Nigerians, through their representatives, outline what they want from this odious union. A decent existence , given our natural endwoment, is our right and not a priviledge we must beg for . To that end, I praise your effort.

i think they have the power to remove the governor if they have no confidence in him rather than going on indefinte strike. the strike will not help anything, it will only worsen the case since everything will be at a standstill and the governor being the heartless, idealess man that he is will not mind. they have the power to remove him, and speaking as a deltan i think 90% will want to see this man that was forced on the people of delta leave.

the people are gradually waking up. the failure of system is dawning on the people now and they're reacting. never in the history of nigeria has the the term "revolution" been apparent in our everyday discussion. the dawn of a new era for nigeria.
Re: Delta State Law Makers Adjourn Sitting Indefinitely To Protest System Failure by UYCO: 12:09pm On Oct 30, 2011
If they can impeach him, then they will be friends to the masses and that can attract sympathy vote for them by 2015. Pitching tent with Uduaghan is an express road to failure. Victor Ochie, the Uduaghan candidate who is in possession of our N27 Billion is dead on arrival. The IPP project has not generated 1 Megawat to deltans but the money is no where, an amount enough to send 20,000 youths to South Africa for oil and gas specialized training to make them viable for employment into oil companies.

Politicians with their deceits:
Why do they (the lawmakers) have to adjourn plenary after contributing to the problems by approving an upward review of the governor's boys salaries/ emoluments.

If they really want to protest; they should forfit all their entitlement for 2 years and let the proceed be used in making life better for the citizenry since they want to serve the masses.

UYCO,
What can be done to replicate the Delta State "revolution" across the rest of Nigeria.

What can we do to assist the protesting youth of Delta State?

most of the legislators know it will hurt their political ambition if nothing happens in the state but what they fail to understand is that the harm has already been done. what's coming will swallow them all up.

Are they going to still draw their salaries even though they have abandoned the House of Assembly

By this, would they also fulfil the minimum number of attendance per legislative year? Who exactly is the check on our legislators' excessses

The contractors didnt work for the person that was governor in 2005,they worked for Delta state government and Uduaghan is the current head of the DTSG,moreso he was part of the government in 2005(he was already the SSG by then,if Im correct) so he is aware of those jobs,he should pay up and stop stealing the state's funds
