The Nigerian military has seized over 500,000 litres of stolen crude oil as part of an intensified crackdown on illicit activities in the country’s oil-rich Niger Delta region. Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defense Media Operations, declared the success of Operation Delta Safe. Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, he disclosed the achievements of the troops in combating oil theft in the Niger Delta region over the past week. “Troops have demonstrated unwavering dedication, resulting in the recovery of an astounding 578,900 litres of stolen crude oil, along with other illegal petroleum products,” Maj.-Gen. Buba announced. The military’s actions were not limited to confiscations; they also targeted illegal operations, leading to the dismantling of 50 sites used for refining oil unlawfully.
