UK Moves To Close Temporary Visa Schemes As Over 143,000 Nigerian Doctors, Others Migrate In Nine Months

The move was a result of the call made by the New Conservatives party which urged the country’s ministers to end temporary visa schemes for care workers as part of an effort to reduce net migration.

The United Kingdom Government has started considering closing temporary visa schemes for care workers as the country recorded the highest numbers of migrants in the last nine months.

The move was a result of the call made by the New Conservatives party which urged the country’s ministers to end temporary visa schemes for care workers as part of an effort to reduce net migration.

The group, which is reported to be supported by former Home Secretary, Suella Braverman, and former UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, stated that the government could no longer handle the number of migrants coming into the UK on a daily basis.

The Home Office, the UK’s migration department, on Thursday, noted that 143,990 health and care worker visas were granted in the year ending September 2023.

This is more than double the 61,274 for the year to September 2022.

The top three nationalities, according to the Home Office, on these visas are Indians, Nigerians and Zimbabweans.

Nigeria has the most significant percentage increase behind Zimbabwe at 169 per cent and India, with 76 per cent.

In terms of dependents granted health and care work visas, Nigeria spiked by 329 per cent from 10,533 to 45,203.

The increase in the number of healthcare workers migrating to the UK is attributed to its cheap and easy entry migration conditions as the country faces a shortage of healthcare workers due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The latest statistics indicate that 1.279 million more people have come to the UK than have exited in the last two years.

This, it was noted, has put a lot of pressure on accommodation and amenities in the past month, raising concerns among Britons.

In a recent interview, the UK Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, said net migration levels are indeed “too high” after one of his senior ministers said it was “unacceptable” that there were a record number of arrivals last year.

Net migration into the UK peaked at 745,000 in 2022, which is a record high according to revised estimates published by the Office for National Statistics on Thursday.

The data places migration levels at three times higher than before Brexit, despite a Conservative Party 2019 manifesto pledge to bring overall numbers down.

The National Health Service Trusts, on Friday, also lamented how difficult it is sustainable to prop up social care with workers on visas.

The victims of bad govt are being denied visas, with more plans to deny them visas, while the corrupt perpetuators of bad govt, murderers and thieves don't encounter any form of obstacles when looking for visas. We have never heard that the families of Abacha, Buhari, Obj, Babangida, Atiku and others have been denied visas at any point in time shocked.

Damn we are damn too docile in this country...

Dunno but the current suffering of Nigerians is unprecedented.

Instead of cutting down government expenses, everyday it's a new government appointment, making everything bloated the more.

You see budgetry provisions of FG and States, and you weep.
Billions are budgeted for food, exotic cars, computers, printers, ..

Billions are even budgeted for an item called "others"

Palliatives matter is closed chapter..

Everything has risen by up to 400 percent.

Cost of living has never been so high, poverty and suffering has never been this bad.
Nobody is doing anything about this.

Anyone that tells you that the past 6 months have not been worse than Buhari, then that person is a fool.

Bola Tinubu is being allowed to get away with "economic murder".

Will not stop Nigerian nurses and doctors with proper qualifications who have passed the necessary exams and registration with the UK council from migrating.

Also, singles using the school route will always be welcomed.

If they don't stop it, one day uk will become an extension of Nigeria. Nigeria will fill up their parliaments, government agencies, military, police and even become prince, Princess, King and Queen. We are dominating them and will soon recolonise them

The effect of this brain drain would be felt by all in a few years time

As we have refused to do the needful to our health sector but choose to pay lip service, countries who value what we take what we have

As long as politicians can travel abroad at will for their healthcare, no one would develop our hospitals for us

cry

The last thing a Nigerian would do is to speak up to his/her oppressors... I, inclusive
We rather run away from our collective problems...
Or decide to create comedy with it on social media

If all the so called developed countries ran away from their problems... Would we have places to Japa to..?
You see some Nigeria sleeping on the Streets like stray pets in Canada... And Winter is coming soon
Most of them have been supporting this present group of politicians running the country down...

Hope we find peace someday

UK, you can close your doors against them and throw the keys into the Atlantic ocean. Tinubu has enough agbado, ewedu and cassava to feed them forever🤣🤣🤣.

That is a lot of Forex remittance to Nigeria for many years to come.
If you are going to build or buy land in Nigeria, this is the best time to buy as competition will rise soon.

Nigeria's government needs to sit up as more Nigerians are getting exposed and they cannot continue to do nonsense like buying yachts with a more exposed population without backlash.

It is neither by labelling others inferior, fraudulently forcing some old man who should be resting after a very long career as a politician on the masses and compelled the people not to criticize their president. Anybody who don't welcome criticism is not fit to be a president.

The best way to do it is to find more money to fund hospitals, which means that we have to find more money from tax revenue in the short term, and long term, find more money from diversifying the economy...because that oil revenue we all rely on isn't enough.

Hospitals are badly funded, and health care is expensive. Too expensive. The UK funds its NHS by massive taxation...and even then it is still in debt.

You are right....

But even if we spent all those billions on healthcare, it won't make much of a difference.

The thing is, we need far far more than what the government spends on feeding, even healthcare right now, to have a decent health service in Nigeria.

Article has a problems

1. Article says that over 143000 Nigerian doctors have left the country. We have about 80000-90000 doctors registered by MDCN, since registration began.

2.Anyway, there are now just 24000 doctors left in the country.

Misleading headline created by a junk news media for people who don't read.

The 143,000 people include immigrants from ALL OTHER COUNTRIES in the world. NOT just Nigeria. It includes Nigerians, Indians, Zimbabweans, Egyptians, etc.

Also, observe how the report only include percentage increases and not ACTUAL numbers of immigrants. For instance, the actual number of Nigerians in the whole 143,000 people could be less than 9,000.

Apart from being the collective number of people from all over the world, the 143,000 people are NOT all Doctors.

The number also includes nurses and carers, who are basically housegirls for sick people.

While the Brain Drain is real, useless online newspapers should not exaggerate the issue in order to cause panic.
