It's solves 70% of their energy loss.

It's worth it

Either the article is incorrect or just pure propaganda.

FYI 3OMW will barely power a big city in Nigeria, so I struggle to see how that can meet 70% of country needs?? Abegi.

Yes they are not as big us, but that 70% figure is a heavy exaggeration

Good riddance to bad rubbish! How can we be suffering incessant power cuts whilst we keep on subsidizing ungrateful neighbors?

30 Megawatt is not worth celebrating

As in.

Reading through comments it's obvious most have no idea no idea how meagre 30MW is for a country.

Excellent news.
Crazy times will force people to find alternative solution to their problems, in most cases.
Congratulations to Niger and even more impressive, it is green energy.

The plant has over 55,000 solar panels and can generate 30 megawatts of electricity.”

With this huge number of solar panels, it can only generate 30MW of electricity. Solar is expensive. But they have abundant sunshine.

Very true

I have always found it strange that with the possible exception of Morroco, countries that are in the Sahara are not making use of the adequate sunlight they get year in and out for power supply.
I bet they can not afford it,solar isn’t sustainable

Those paying well are not seeing the light regularly and in stable supply...!

Of course there are few and isolated exceptions, but over 70% of the nation can't boast of Stable electricity supply.

Mind you, I haven't even talked about uninterrupted power supply o! That one is a total mirage... A serious rocket science in this nation.

You are free to defend your paymasters all you want, but I say it as I see it.

You supply uninterrupted power to neighboring nations, even on credit, but even the most affluent parts of this nation can't boast of their power supply not blinking for at least a week.

That, my friend, is the definition of IRONY!!! tongue

You didn't read that in the report above. Nigeria supplied 70% to them but report didn't say the solar panels generates 70%

30 megawatt won't solve 70 or even 5% of Niger's power needs. It needs far far more than that.

That's where their planned nuclear station (to generate 1000mw) comes in.

The Nigerian Government - past and present - should be ashamed of itself.

If with just solar energy alone, a relatively poor and landlocked country could produce 30 megawatts of electricity while the so-called Giant of Africa continues to struggle between 3 to 5 megawatts of electricity coupled with unending national grid collapse, should tell us the huge corruption in the electricity sector.

No will, therefore, no way to address this challenge.

Those who are benefiting from this rot would never want stable and interruptible electricity.

Kudos to Niger Republic for calling the bluff of the Giant with the feet of clay!

Nigeria should not cry later when they will be building their own Dam. A Dam on their end will turn down the efficiency of the Kainji Dam. I see do man do body later on this issue. Nigeria will certainly negotiate.
