Before you dabble your hands into anything it is pertinent that you possess little knowledge about what that thing entails. Do you want to write the UTME Exams? I would implore you to have the basic information if not sufficient information about what Jamb- an examination body has for you and your responsibilities as a stakeholders. History and origin of Jamb - an examination body History and origin of Jamb - an examination body Everything has its root and origin. Therefore it is of necessity you know the origin of Jamb. The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is an entrance examination conducted in Nigeria. It is conducted for tertiary level institutions. The board (JAMB) conducts an entrance examination called UTME (Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination) for students who want to get admitted into Nigerian universities. You see, it is obvious that we have been confusing UTME for Jamb. I have also been guilty of using the word Jamb in place of UTME. It is worthy to note that Jamb being a board conducts and organizes the examination which is called UTME (Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination). So I want to point out the correction. You do not say I want to write Jamb rather you say I want to write UTME. I hope you can make a difference after reading this post. JAMB was established in 1977 (Jamb Bulletin). The board is also charged with the responsibility to administer similar examinations for applicants to Nigeria public and private universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education. It is important you know that before you partake in the registration of the UTME exam you must have written and passed your WASSCE West African Senior School Certificate Examination or its equivalent, National Examination Council (NECO). Although times have changed you do not need to expressly have your O'level result (SSCE, GCE etc) before registering to write Jamb as one can now register based on awaiting result. Every year, the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) conducts an examination called UTME. The result a student has will determine whether he or she will be admitted to higher education (University, Polytechnics, and College of Education etc.). Recently, more than 2.1 million candidates (source: Jamb Bulletin) registered for the examination. The Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) is only valid for a year and the grade is between 0 and 400. With the introduction of the Computer Based Test (CBT). Students now have the privilege to write their exams using the computer unlike how it was a few years ago when students had to use paper and pencil (PPT). Jamb CBT (Computer Based Test) centers are the various locations and centers in Nigeria approved by Jamb for the registration of the UTME examination. The Jamb CBT centers are scattered around the 36 states of Nigeria with the FCT (Federal Capital Territory) inclusive. Jamb has warned that any center that tampered with its CCTV cameras and as such failed to cover any of its allotted examination sessions would have the results of such sessions cancelled in line with the policy of “No CCTV, No Result, No payment”. Any center that also tampered with its CCTV system or router would pay for its reconfiguration and resetting of the router.
