Out of 52 officially recognized traditional rulers in Lagos, only 1 has Benin ancestry. So how does Lagos belongs to you?

Why Lagos does not belong to Yorubas – Oba Akiolu
The Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, has claimed that Lagos State is not part of Yoruba land.

Akiolu’s statement is coming barely a week after he publicly humiliated the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi at an event.

Can we just make something crystal clear. The oba of Benin NEVER said Lagos belongs to the Binis. He simply said the Binis founded Lagos. This is a historical fact. Lagos today belongs to the Yoruba's 100% and nobody is disputing that.

If I can give you a comparison in Europe. The city of London in the UK was actually created by Romans and was called Londonium. Prior to that York used to be the capital of England. The Romans made London the capital. That is a historical fact, and of course it dose not mean that today London belongs to the Italy. There are many other examples like this.

Closer to home Ilorin would be another example. A city that was clearly founded by Yourba's but today is ruled by the Fulani.

Lagos is a Yoruba city today, and nobody (At least nobody from Edo) is contesting that.

How do you find or discover an occupied environment with an established culture, language, and way of life?

Makes no sense.

Benin people did not find anything, a lot of communities were already on the ground before his ancestors settled in a corner of Lagos Island.

The word 'founded' is wrong. Like the man rightly said in the video Aworis, ijebus, Nupes, and even the Tinubus (from Bornu) have been in Lagos before the arrival of Bini invaders

He is not the supreme ruler in Lagos. He was made chairman Lagos traditional council due to economic importance of Lagos island and because Lagos island was the seat of the colonial masters then reason for the title oba of Lagos but in actual fact his authority does not go beyond Lagos island ( isale eko precisely)

Learn the history of your state. You will know that your forefathers migrated from somewhere to that particular place, followed by some other people and tribes.

Lagos has been a commercial area for a long time. The reason it attracted so many tribes.

But you guys always claim that it is because of Tinubu's development in Lagos that Igbos are running to Lagos from their region....

The way you guys talk from everyside of your mouths to fit your selfish narratives at any given time is alarming....

Tomorrow I won't be surprised to see you guys coming out to say Lagos is no mans land to fit another selfish narrative

Even that Benin ancestry has been eroded/lost.

Lagos' 1st king was Ado

2nd king was Ashipa

3rd was Gabaro

Gabaro had no child. As a result, his sister married the Ijesha high priest to produce the current line of Lagos monarchs.

This chart is in the palace of the Oba of Lagos.

Even Akinolu is over 90% Yoruba. He's from the Ologun Kutere ruling house and the progenitor of that house is an Ijesa man named Alaagba. The only ruling house in Lagos with Bini ancestry is the Akinsemoyin ruling house and they've not allowed them to ascend the throne since 1749.
