Apparently the sending out of Ife Princes to found Kingdoms Started with the Obatala dynasty of Ile Ife Kings and there had been at least 93 Obatala kings before Oduduwa
All the Ifon Towns in Yorubaland are ruled by those the Obatala dynasty of kings sent to found Kingdoms
They Founded Benin,Moba ,Some Ekiti Towns all the Ifon Towns

The Ogiamen are high Chiefs in Benin but the Oba Tried to Relegate.their Position
You're absolutely correct about Obatala.

This is the reason why the Ooni of Ife, Oba Eniola Ogunwusi also stated clearly in an interview that I read last year that the Oduduwa Dynasty is the 3rd royal dynasty in Ife meaning that other Obas had existed before the coming of Oduduwa from Oke Ora.

Second, the Oba Frederick Akinrutan, the Olugbo of Ugbo-Ilaje did say that the original name of Ufe (Ife) is Ugbolokun. The family quarters of the Ugbo-Ilajes exists in Ife till today. These real facts have to be taught to everybody in schools today because Yorubas had existed before the Oduduwa dynasty and Obaship existed before Oduduwa. I felt truly liberated years ago when I finally got to know these open historical facts instead of the allegorical or watered-down history of Yorubaland taught in social studies right from primary schools which falsely placed Oduduwa as the original ancestor of Yorubas but this is false! Oduduwa Dynasty was the beginning of a new ruling dynasty and NOT the beginning of the people of Yorubaland. Obatala, Oduduwa, Oranmiyan, etc, are collectively some of the ancestors of Yorubas.

Same thing too with the Igodomigodos (later named Binis) who had existed before the rise of the Oranmiyan Dynasty in Bini.

You realise bini and other languages of southern Nigeria are from the Niger-Congo language family

And yes there are converging linguistic links here and there

For example

Oba in ìgbo means Barn for yams and other produces

Obà still means that plant used in making calabash

So don't brag about origin of word with people you're in same language family with

It ight mean something in their language you never can tell

If na lie ask any Igbo person wetin Olaniyi means in Igbo grin you'll be shocked

Both the words Oba and Bini are of Yoruba origins.

The Bini word for king is Ogie and ONLY the Yoruba dynasty in Edo uses the title of Oba.

Oba (Yoruba)= to reign . This is why you hear the saying in Yoruba 'Oba ba l'ori oungbo' = The King reign over everything.

Oba (Igbo) = Barn , has no correlation with kingship.

Oranmiyan started the Obaship in Igodomingodo which he re-named Ile-Ibinu=> Ule-Ibinu=> Ubini=> named Benin by the Portuguese.

If you're a linguist you'd know that

Words can be borrowed from people you've made contact with and doesn't necessarily means they don't have a word for it . They just prefer to use the borrowed word

I had a conversation about this topic with my friend yesterday . He's actually a linguist , He said it's absolutely possible to replace a local word by a borrowed word from another neighbouring language. According to him it's called Lexical replacement or loan word replacement.
It happens alot especially with society you've come in contact with and it's the basis of English language . English is 80+% loanwords! So what's the fuss about.

You keep diverging to irrelevant issues.

In the numerous 'oriki' (Praise poetry/ panegyrics) of the Oba of Bini, there are many references to Oduduwa and his royal titles but none to Izoduwa or Elkerledahan. This simply means, the Izoduwa/Elkerledahan (which was never mentioned in the earliest recorded histories of Bini by the European Visitors/Traders who visited Bini centuries ago and Native Historians) is a recent fabrication.

Can you believe that the Yorubas had a kingdom in Lagos before Oduduwa was born?

It was the Moba Kingdom
They built the 160 km Eredo wall near Ijebu

Moba Kingdom... That must be in the Ijebu-Yoruba area of Lagos State?

Wow! I'm not surprised by your assertions because archaeologists had found human remains in Ondo State going back to thousands of years ago. The ancestors of every part of Yorubaland are older in age than Oduduwa who only represents a small chain in the history of Yoruba ancestors. If kids had been taught these historical facts from primary schools, the confusion over the true Yoruba origins which many of us now have clarity about would NOT have arisen.

Moba Yorubas were settled in moba Lagos well before the 9th Century before Oduduwa whose Son Oranmiyan established the Benin Throne and kingdom was Born
They are currently classified with the Awori people but we're in Lagos many Centuries earlier

In the 10th Century when the first Owa Obokun of Ijesha fetched from the Lagos Sea Water to cure Oduduwa's blindness there were already moba Yorubas. In Lagos and he spent 2 months with them

The idol Worshippers Olokun diety was actually a moba King called Seniade that ruled from an Island off the coast of Lagos that has now been Submerged by the Sea.

Some of the moba migrated to Ijebuland and the moba built the UNESCO world heritage 9th Century Eredo Wall near Ijebu and their kingdom included many Islands off the Coast of Lagos

They have now been included with the Awori people but we're actually the Original Inhabitants of Lagos and were in Lagos Centuries before Oduduwa was Born

The Oore of Otun Ekiti migrated from moba in Lagos and is descended from the moba Kings including Seniade

moba is near Victoria Island and their crown predates Oduduwa's own

Yorubas forefathers might not have been great at Technology but God Almighty definitely gave them Prodigious History Art and Music
All Glory be to God Almighty

@Christistruth00
Thanks for this info on Moba Kingdom which from the map is located on the Lekki Peninsula facing the Lagos lagoon. I watched the illuminating YouTube video on the Eredo wall and it was mind-blowing. There are indeed major tourist sites in Yorubaland and Nigeria.

With more advanced radiocarbon dating and ground penetrating radars, more excavations will be done to unravel ancient Yoruba history before the Oduduwa dynasty era.

You're correct.

ASEWO/Ashewo is the Yoruba word for prostitute while the "Ashawo" is a bastardized or corruption of the Yoruba name by Niger Delta speakers who were based in Yorubaland which gained gradual use from the early 1980s in the hugely popular Wale Adenuga-owned erotic Ikebe Super magazine which sold all over Nigeria back in the day and I read the magazine featuring Dauda the Sexy Guy back then.

Of recent, the Yoruba word for roasted plantains called BOLI has also been annoyingly corrupted to "Bole" in the Rivers State area. Why not use the exact Yoruba pronunciation and spelling after all hamburgers are hamburgers, hotdogs are hotdogs, shawarma is spelled shawarma.

You nailed it! And Yoruba’s dominance of AfroBeats also helped popularize many Yoruba words though music.

I deliberately stop replying those arguing that it was Ibo than broken English lol

Ogene001:

"Ashawo' is igbo rendering of "Ashewo'.
Don't bring your Lagos madness here. Every ethnic language and expressions contributed to pidgin and everybody uses them without knowing the origin

Hausa words in pidgin include wahala, wayo, berekete,
Hausa expressions include: E don do (it's enough). This is literary translation of "Ya yi"

Igbo words in pidgin include tey, una etc
Igbo expressions include , think say, know say, hear say etc these are wrong literary translation verbatim from Igbo to English
Think say = chere si
Know say = Mara si
Talk say = kwuru si
Many other examples

Now the igbo word unu (you plural) was corrupted to "una by another tribe probably south south tribes before it entered pidgin.
Jamaican pidgin still use "unu" which is the correct igbo.
This was exactly how a Yoruba word Ashewo was corrupted to Ashawo by Igbos before it entered Pidgin

What of yansh? Lol

Which language did it come from??

I also noticed that South Africans use similar word but with a little difference.

They call theirs 'nyansh'
