The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) says troops of the Nigerian military and Department of State Service (DSS) have arrested a leader of Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Bauchi stat

It said the ISWAP leader was arrested during a sting operation by the troops, on November 29, at Tarum Village located on the outside of Bauchi Metropolis.

Although the DHQ didn’t reveal the name, it said the ISWAP leader was incharge of North Central and North West zones.

The Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, December 1.

According to the military high command, the arrest of the ISWAP leader was part of troops’ efforts at “targeting the leadership of terrorist groups to ensure they pose no further threat to the safety and security of citizens.”

Buba said ongoing military operations across the country have continued to decimate the fighting force of terrorists and other criminal elements, and reduced their fighting capacity.

He said: “The leadership of these groups remain the prime targets of ongoing operations. Accordingly, the armed forces remains determinate to destroy the terrorists, insurgents and violent extremist groups in the country and degrading their military capability,” Buba said.

The defence spokesperson said airstrikes by Nigerian Air Force (NAF’) aircrafts have destroyed several enclaves of terrorist leaders in the North West and North Central zones in the past week.
Buba said: [b]“The operations of the week in focus resulted in 52 neutralized terrorists, while 204 of them were arrested.

[“Troops also arrested 58 perpetrators of oil theft and rescued 234 kidnapped hostages.

“In the South South zone, troops recovered 267,700 litres of stolen crude oil, 567,700 litres of illegally refined diesel and 5,000 litres of kerosene.

“Troops destroyed 7 dugout pits, 25 boats, 47 storage tanks, 5 vehicles, 141 cooking ovens, one pumping machine, one outboard engine, one tricycle, one speedboat, one tugboat and 51 illegal refining sites.”

According to defence spokesperson, troops recovered 46 assorted weapons and 148 assorted ammunition, comprising 30 AK47 rifles, two josef magnum pump action gun, one double barrel gun, two single barrel guns, 12 locally made pistols, 13 dane guns, one hand grenade, nine locally made rifles, 3 RPG chargers, two locally made hand grenades.

Others, according to Buba, are 120 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 364 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 54 live cartridges, 11 rounds of empty cases of 7.62mm special ammo, 32 magazines, 34 vehicles, 64 mobile phones, 47 motorcycles and sum of N1,582,690.00 amongst other items.

Terrorism will not be eradicated as long as security receives one of the highest budgets year on year.

If it stops, the budget reduces.

There has been positive responses from the military since the inauguration of the new President. May Nigeria be great again.

The buck stops on the table of the leader indeed.

Insecurity is gradually improving.

I don't think the BH problem will ever go away. The generals will continue to cash out on defence expenditure and the citizenry is left to bear the brunt except for occasional killings of the rank and diles

Weldone, Galant soldiers!

It’s just that I do not see any end to all this terrorism, bandit, self determine, pirate etc. USA is playing game on us telling us they want peace. One of the major source of money for US & Russia is Armunition sales, who is buying it, what are they using it for, how are they manage to transport it there prefer location (this is called Black Market

Just make sure you don't go killing unarmed civilians and tagging them terrorists.

This has become the modus operandi of the Nigerian military lately.

Which kind of mentality do you guys have ?

You truly believe terrorism will magically disappear if Nigerian military get peanuts as budgets ? The IQ of most Nigerians really baffle me.

The weapons and armory our forces uses are not cheap, our military suppose to have the highest budgets in Nigeria if we really want to eradicate terrorists and insecurities.

Do you know how much country like Germany, France, USA etc put in their military every year? even those that are not at war and manufacture most of their weapons and equipment.

Many of you claim our military forces are poorly equiped but don't want high budget for them and which sector truly deserve high budget more than our forces that put their lives on the line to defend the country. What you should be demanding is accountability not underfunding the military.

USA have one of the best forces in the world today because their military have the highest budgets.
