Nigeria Only Respects Resistance, Not Dialogue- Uche Onyeagocha

By Journalist101- December 2, 20230

A former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Uche Onyeagocha has said that the Nigeria government has no respect for dialogue or any form of round table discussion.

According to a video posted on X (formerly known as twitter) by Omoyele Sowore, Hon. Onyeagocha who was addressing a gathering said the only thing Nigeria government respects is resistance while recalling what Ken Sarowiwa went through and how militant leader, Ateke Tom was brought to the negotiation table by former president Umaru Musa Yaradua.

“…throughout, Ken Saro Wiwa argued for non violence, Nigeria has no respect for people who argue for non violence, they simply hung him.

“After the death of Ken, i became lawyer to Ateke Tom- militant leader, you shoot him he will shoot you back and at the end of the day, when Yaradua wanted to negotiate with him, they sent a presidential jet.

“The only thing Nigeria respects today, is militancy, capacity to defend and mobilize yourself, any other thing is waste of time.”

Continuing, the former Secretary to the Government of Imo state while admitting that Nigerians are hungry and angry, said they’re not sufficiently angry.

“…they will soon get sufficiently angry but I’m saying that before they get sufficiently angry, the judges that are manipulating the judicial process are doing what they should do, that’s what they know to do; the politicians that are rigging election are doing what they should do, that’s what they understand to do; the INEC officials who are collaborating, people like Prof and the likes of them are doing what they should. The only people who are not doing what they should do is the suffering masses, who are victims.”

He further told the masses that they will never get justice from any arm of government advised them that the only way they can get justice “is by their organisation and capacity and courage to resist by every means necessary. It’s not a moral question and protesting on the street so they drag you away won’t work.”

Is the Honourable asking Nigerian Youths to take up arms?.

Well, that could be the only way to salvage the Country.

The Arab spring thing, since the trio of the Executive, Judiciary and legislature has collapsed

Nigerian youths has tried the End SARS protest which led to the unfortunate death of many.

Apparently this informed his choice of words, "every means possible".

But will it work?. The government will use the usual willing tools to shout "Igbo" and ethnicize it.

I therefore urge Igbos to avoid this suggestion

Lol! You're wrong in your thoughts...

You should have said, OBJ, Buhari and Tinubu governments only respect resistance rather than generalising it on all Nigerians, which you know it's false.

Yar'Adua and GEJ governments respected dialogues and actually did what they promised during the dialogues. So, don't get confused with that.

Quite thoughtful of you.

Yaradua and Jonathan are the face of democracy in Nigeria. They respects dialogue.

While obj and Buhari who were military men, don't.

Tinubu?. Is it too early to judge?. A lot of people would argue that the End SARS mayhem was at his behest.

Part of their manipulations. When he was in government he never said this but now outside government he wants Nigerians to fight government.
Some gullible ones will hail him now not knowing they are being manipulated by the politician.
No let any politician use your head o, Obidients take note.

The concept of dialogue seems to have worked everywhere else but Nigeria.

Nobody dialogues from a weak standpoint.

I align with the Honourable, how many you dialogues with someone you know you're stronger than?.

To force Nigerian government to dialogue table, the youths must make a resounding statement.

But just like someone said above, I'm afraid, the ''Ronu-ists'' would again plunge it into ethnic bruhaha, since that's their only stock in trade

Well, he's right though. Truth's bitter. Though man shall not live by vawulence all the time but the kingdom has suffereth violence & the violent taketh it by force. So in all areas, you v to be brutal than ya oppressors!
The FG too stubborn under ex president Tiringbeku Boolharry. Though we don't know what Daddy Bulaba ll still do. Hoping he ll perform miracles from 2024. But if he too fail, FG ll face many resistance people.
Nigeria is tiring!

If nigeria youths can come out in thousands irrespective of their political party, their religion or tribe today and say to government Enough is enough the government will sit tight and respect the citizens but the youths are not ready yet because they ve always use political party, religion and tribe as weapon to divide the youths.

Which government in Nigeria was ever listening
You see that you are already being manipulated by their rhetorics.
Those criticizing now are those not benefitting, let them be called into government now their yerns will change to 'give the government a chance, they mean well '.
We know their antics and i refuse to be used by them.

Good

Keep it in your Region

Nigeria doesn't need another Ethnic Cleansing
Operation that would be tagged a Revolutionary Coup like in Jan 1966

In what sense. During Johnathan El zakazaki was arrested and his children and supporters were killed, newspapers were confiscated etc. Yaradua, although he spent a short time, he had to be forced to do the correct thing of handing over to his deputy due to incapacity, despite public outrage.
Everyone of them do their own thing and those outside will rubbish them until they are invited to the table.
Leave all these people and concentrate on making yourself better and doing your own bit, little by little we would get things right.

I think I agree with him.

During the Civil war an agreement was reached to allow peace reign in Aburi Ghana called the Aburi accord. The Nigerian authorities within 48 hours reneged on the agreement.

Some time in early 2000 a judgment requesting Nigeria to hand over oil rich bakassi peninsula to Cameroon was reached by an external court ICJ that some countries don't obey ,within 24 hours the Nigerian authorities handed over the peninsula with the people and oil and gas deposits to Cameroon, Cameroon's biggest shock as a country was when an independent BIR demanded the peninsula back.

Notice how weak Nigeria is to keeping to its own laws that set free Nnamdi Kanu and Emefiele but very agile in obeying laws taking away its territory to less fancied neighbors.

Reminds me of a boxer who bullied every single member of his family, household and village but never won a titled fight
