Rotary Club of Lagos Island is on a mission to empower young girls in Nigeria through the Sakhi project! 🩸✨

🩲 What is Sakhi Project?

Our Sakhi project is the distribution of sanitary pads to young girls in ten government schools in Nigeria. The focus is to educate girls about their menstrual health and well- being with hygiene as the top priority.

📢 Creating Awareness:

Highlighting awareness talks, this initiative aims to educate and empower girls about their well-being.

🏫 Making a Difference:

Over the years, 2,000+ Senior Secondary School girls have benefited from this incredible initiative across various schools, including Kuramo School, Victoria Secondary School, Government Senior College in Ikoyi and Maroko, and Wahab Senior High School, among others.

♀️ Promoting Gender Equality:

Rotary Club of Lagos Island champions gender equality with the highest number of female Rotarians in District 9110, actively involving women in all club activities.

🚺 Addressing Critical Issues:

Sakhi Project came on the heel of survey conducted in Nigeria which revealed that lack of proper and adequate menstrual hygiene management system caused by inadequate access to water and sanitation facilities, proper sanitary napkins and ignorance, had been the cause of fungal and bacterial infections in reproductive and urinary tracts, aggravating to serious disorders like kidney failure, infertility and cervical cancer.

We Believe that this impactful project would change psyche of not only the beneficiaries, but also their children and the communities they live in.
Investing in girls’ education through something as simple as personal hygiene kits can transform communities and even their countries.
