The European Union's foreign policy chief has sounded a serious alarm about the extent of destruction caused across the besieged Gaza Strip as a result of the Israeli regime's genocidal war on the territory.

The situation in Gaza is "catastrophic, apocalyptic," Josep Borrell said in Brussels on Monday after chairing a meeting of the EU's foreign ministers.

"The destruction of buildings in Gaza…is more or less or even greater than the destruction suffered by the German cities during the Second World War," he noted, adding, "85 percent of the population is internally displaced."

Israel launched its devastating military aggression against Gaza on October 7 following an operation staged by the territory's resistance groups, dubbed Operation al-Aqsa Storm.

Independent experts estimate that as much as 40 percent of housing units in Gaza has been either damaged or totally destroyed.

According to the United Nations, as many as 1.8 million people have been internally displaced in Gaza, many living in overcrowded UN shelters in the coastal territory's south.

The European official noted that the Israeli genocidal war on Gaza has resulted in "an incredible number of civilian casualties."

"Civilian casualties are between 60 and 70 percent of the overall deaths" based on Gaza Health Ministry's figures, Borrell said, adding, "The human suffering constitutes an unprecedented challenge to the international community."

More than 18,200 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed during the Israeli onslaught on Gaza so far, while upwards of 49,600 others have been wounded. Thousands more are also missing and presumed dead under the rubble.

Settler violence in West Bank

Elsewhere in his remarks, Borrell said the European Union was "alarmed by the violence [against Palestinians] in the [occupied] West Bank by extremist settlers."

He said he had presented a discussion paper to the EU foreign ministers looking at "imposing sanctions against extremist settlers in the West Bank," who have stepped up attacks against Palestinian residents.

Borrell added that he would soon make the discussion paper a formal proposal, which may include refusing visas to extremist Israeli settlers…

Earlier this year, an international human rights organization similarly warned about a "sharp increase" in violent assaults by extremist settlers across the occupied Palestinian territories "under the political cover" provided by the Israeli regime.

Euro Med Rights, a network of 68 human rights organizations, institutions, and individuals based in 30 countries across Europe and the Mediterranean region, said the number of settler attacks in the first half of the current year had reached 1,148, "nearly equaling the total number of attacks recorded in the [entire] previous year (2022), which was 1,187."

Concluding his remarks, Borrell condemned the Israeli regime's decision to approve 1,700 more housing units in the occupied city of al-Quds, which Brussels considers a violation of international law.

In a statement issued on November 3, Michael Lynk and Balakrishnan Rajagopal, the United Nations special rapporteurs on the situation of human rights in the West Bank and on adequate housing, similarly denounced Israel’s plan to build the new settler units.

The UN experts condemned Israeli settlements as "the engine of the occupation," saying the Tel Aviv regime’s illegal construction activities "trample" on human rights law.

So, Israel should have gone back to sleep after your fellow terrorists murdered their people on the night of 7th October?

The level of your hypocrisy is stinking.

Hunger stalks everyone in Gaza as Israel uses food as 'weapons of war': UNRWA

The UN agencies have warned that Palestinians in the besieged strip face widespread hunger and dire conditions, amid Israel’s genocidal war.

“Hunger stalks everyone,” the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Monday, adding, “Too many people haven’t eaten now for two, three days in the Gaza Strip.”

The UNRWA slammed Israel for “systematically” using food, water and fuel “as weapons of war” in Gaza.

It came as the World Food Programme (WFP) revealed in a report published last week that 91 percent of households in Gaza reported going to bed hungry, while 63 percent reported enduring entire days without food.

The WFP conducted the rapid food security assessment during the seven-day truce that expired on November 30.

UN Special Rapporteur on Food Michael Fakhri also told Al Jazeera Arabic, “Every single Palestinian in Gaza is going hungry,” warning of a “genocide” in Gaza.

All these reports, which reflect the dire situation fellow human beings are undergoing in Gaza, have not deterred the US from “shamefully” vetoing a UN resolution calling for a ceasefire on Friday.

The US move drew wide condemnation from the Palestinian Authority and other global leaders and organizations, and even American lawmakers.

However, the United States turned a blind eye to the worldwide criticisms and once again defied calls for ceasefire in Gaza and reaffirmed its support for a “military solution” to the crisis, in an open endorsement of the genocide.

“We think there can be a military solution to taking out the leadership of Hamas that planned and carried out the attacks of October 7, in taking out the militants who crossed into Israel and carried out those attacks,” US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said on Monday

All these are noise

Let hamas terrorists surrender now and Gaza would be free

You cant have terrorists fighting behind civilians and still claiming to have legal civilian status

Pressure should mount on hamas to leave south gaza and meet israel in the north where they have isolated for the war

Nigerian Army is fighting for Fulanis domination and this has nothing to do with war. IPOB does not fight civilians.

IPOB has never gone out of its territory to fight the Nigerian Army and IPOB doesn't target Nigerian civilians.
If I may ask, what do you think the Nigerian Army does in the East? They burn villages, kill civilians and arrest innocent Igbo Youths.

You're a silly boy.
First, IPOB is just a secessionist group, and have nothing in common with your fellow jihadists in Gaza who are only fighting a religious war with no defined direction.

Second, your Nigerian military was mustn't be in Biafran territory in the first place, because unity is not by force. The Israelis soldiers and citizens were attacked in their own country by your terrorists. IPOB don't go yoruba or Fulani land to attack their military.

3rd, IPOB have never invaded your region at night before to massacre your women and children, chanting allahu akbar, in order to enforce secession.

So, any comparison between IPOB, who's rightly agitating for secession, with Islamic terrorists in Gaza is foolish and is made out of your usual ethnoreligious bias which created IPOB in the first place.

Your comment concerns me as an African because we've had our own share of Islamic terrorism.

What you're encouraging in Gaza is terrorism.

A victory for Hamas terrorists is a victory for boko Haram and other terrorists around the world, and i don't need to tell you how that would affect me as an African.
