The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) expressed its appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for the exclusion of universities and other tertiary institutions from the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).

In a statement in Enugu, NANS President Pedro Obi commended President Tinubu for recognizing the challenges faced by these institutions and taking decisive action to amend the IPPIS policy.

NANS, representing Nigerian students, acknowledged President Tinubu’s dedication to advancing the education sector in Nigeria.

The decision to exempt tertiary institutions from IPPIS reflects his understanding of their unique needs and challenges.

“NANS, the umbrella body of Nigerian students, recognises President Tinubu’s commitment to the progress and development of the education sector in Nigeria.”

He said “His decision to amend the IPPIS policy and exempt tertiary institutions is a testament to his understanding of the unique needs and challenges faced by these institutions.”

The removal of universities and other tertiary institutions from IPPIS underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to ensuring the autonomy and effective administration of higher education institutions nationwide.

This aligns with the aspirations of Nigerian students for a robust and internationally competitive education system.

Pedro Obi highlighted the significant challenges posed by the IPPIS system, noting its rigid nature hindering the flexibility necessary for universities to manage human resources effectively.

President Tinubu’s proactive approach in granting autonomy to manage payroll systems empowers institutions to streamline processes and allocate resources efficiently.

The NANS president emphasized that this decision would positively impact the quality of education, fostering an enabling environment for academic excellence, research, and innovation.

He believes it will encourage collaboration between the government and education sector stakeholders, leading to the development of sustainable policies addressing the unique needs of Nigerian universities.

Expressing gratitude to President Tinubu for his visionary leadership, Pedro Obi stated that NANS is confident this landmark decision will contribute to a more prosperous and dynamic higher education system in Nigeria.
