Top 5 Controversial Nigerian Musicians’ Moments In 2023 by Tamarah: 7:00am On Dec 18, 2023
As we bid farewell to 2023, it’s undeniable that the year has been nothing short of dramatic, especially in the world of celebrities.

From shocking revelations to unexpected controversies, the world of social media was set ablaze with discussions on the most controversial moments involving well-known figures. Let’s delve into the top five incidents that had the online community buzzing throughout the year.

These are the Top 5 Nigerian Celebrity Moments In 2023

Seun Kuti’s fight with a Police Officer
In May 2023, Seun Kuti, son of Afrobeat legend, Fela Kuti, became a focal point of controversy when a video of him slapping a police officer on Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos surfaced online. The incident sparked heated debates on social media, with some justifying Kuti’s actions, citing self-defense, while others condemned any act of violence against law enforcement.

Kuti maintained that the policeman endangered his family’s life, citing the presence of his child in the car.

Davido’s Cheating Scandal
June 2023 witnessed an event in the entertainment world when not one but two women emerged with pregnancy claims against the renowned married Nigerian singer, Davido. Anita Brown, an American woman in an online video, announced her affair with the singer displaying purported pregnancy test results and screenshots of conversations with Davido and his cousin, Clarks Adeleke.

Another bombshell dropped as 22-year-old Ivanna Bay declared her pregnancy for Davido, sharing explicit conversations and adding another layer to the scandal.

Mohbad’s Death
In September 2023, the untimely demise of Ilerioluwa “Mohbad” Aloba, a rising star under Naira Marley’s Marlian Music label, cast a dark shadow over the industry. Old videos surfaced, revealing Mohbad expressing fear for his life and implying Naira Marley’s potential involvement if anything happened to him. Nigerians mourned the loss and, fueled by suspicions, demanded Naira Marley’s arrest.

The singer faced public outrage until he returned to Nigeria and was apprehended by the police. Investigations, however, revealed evidence only linking Naira Marley to the assault and bullying of Mohbad, not to his death.

Oladips’ Fake Death
Oladips, also known as Oladipupo Olabode Oladimeji, took center stage in a bizarre controversy in November 2023 when his management declared him dead after battling an undisclosed illness for two years. This announcement shocked fans still reeling from Mohbad’s passing. However, the plot thickened as speculations arose that Oladips might be alive.

Days later, the rapper resurfaced on social media, debunking the death claims. Accusations of a publicity stunt for his upcoming album fueled public anger, labeling Oladips as a clout chaser. The rapper later apologized, attributing the confusion to his manager, who was promptly fired.

Rema’s “Demonic” O2 Arena Performance
Rema, the sensational Nigerian artist known for his hits, faced controversy during his performance at the O2 Arena. Critics labeled the show as “demonic” due to his choice of props, including an artificial dark horse and a strange mask. Illuminati conspiracies swirled, accusing Rema of selling his soul to the devil.

In response, Rema clarified that the props paid homage to his Edo State roots, with the dark horse representing a Benin artifact, the mask resembling the famous Queen Idia mask, and the bat symbolizing the nocturnal bats of Edo.

Davido's cheating scandal reiterates my believe in one thing.

"No put mouth for husband and wife matter or boyfriend and girlfriend matter".

Them go use you settle their fight.
Today you see them doing their mushy mushy stuff on the Internet. Online in laws that carried the matter on their heads have gone silent.

On Mohbad. It is just sad that once you are gone, in a short period of time. You are forgotten. Despite all the protest and dragging. Who is behind bars? Nobody.
This teaches us a lesson that we all owe ourselves one thing. SOUND MENTAL AND PHYSICAL HEALTH. Never let anything pressure you, pursue your peace of mind. Also do not prophesy about death and negative thoughts.
Mohbad most of the time sang about death like late Dagrin and death called him sooner. May his soul RIP. Amen

Alot happened in 2023 the year is yet to end more dramatic events will still happen in Entertainment industry. The most unpalatable one is the Oladip faking his own death to blow. If you are good at what you do just keep it going and be consistent sooner or later you will blow. Let's draw inspiration from people who make it despite coming from poor background and obstacles they face in the course of their adventure..

So called fans are live wires of the controversies, while the person at centre of attention gains no matter how bleak the matter hand is; the fans just fans and nothing good does he gain.
