Those vipers and shameless keyboard warriors who always insult Edo state and Governor Obaseki are nowhere to be found on this thread.

Obaseki got it right with this one. Edo is officially an oil producing state.

What's Kogi doing with their own as the first oil producing state in the north? Or is Anambra still claiming the oil field?

Obaseki failed, but he did well by creating an enabling environment for this to work.

Nope. Unless you want a subsidy back, fuel prices are not going to come down

Salaries, taxes, suppliers even the owner of the refinery and any shareholders have to be payed
So what's the jubilation all about ,when fuel will still be sold at same prices when the refineries weren't working?

If we will be having oil in many states in nigeria should we still be having people sleeping under bridges, should we still be having homeless people or people that can't feed themselves, this is an oil producing country...

People think that prices will fall now that we have domestic refining.

The problem is, at the end, most componets still come from abroad, workers have to be paid high enouf salaries (because they will japa if they do not pay them well), and mainteance and upgrades still happen.

All that adds up.

That means you want the refineries to break down.

Petrol has to be sold profitably from refineries otherwise the refinery would break down

Also subsides by their very nature provide room for mass looting

There is a reason why GSM companies beat up Nitel and Mtel. They were not subsidised. They earned enough profit to build a strong network

So in other words, there will be no positive impact on the people even after local production begins. Hardship continues then. You guys should continue to deceive yourselves.

Would you open a petrol station and sell petrol at N40 to help the poor? Would you?

There is no self deceit in believeing that everything has to be sold at a profit. It is why, at the end of the day, many people can afford to pay for stuff. And to make their working environment better in a way.

If you want cheap fuel, you either pay the kind of taxes that can fund a subsidy adequately, or you pay the market price. The profit motive is why the USA, which you admire, and Trump, whom you admire, are rich.

They should have just left it the way it has been, since it will have no positive impact on the average Nigerian

If you mean that we should have continued subsides, that would have meant that we would be , as the years go by, spending larger and larger amounts of our budget on subsides, which means a large deficit, which means we take more and more loans...which means more debt

Which means wesuffer a lot.

Assuming we kept fuel at N65 per liter, when landing costs in 2012 were 99 naira (January)....to date..by now cost of subsidisng fuel would have gone up from N34 per liter in Jan 2012 to N655 per liter today..or more. The money would be coming from our budget. And then there is the massive smuggling, stealing and looting going on.

At the end, people want to make money. No one wants to help the poor at the expense of lost business, lost jobs, bad situation.

Besides,as at today our debt is eating the majority of our revenue. Subsidy payments over the years is a big reason for the debt.

You don't have to like it, but the sad thing is, petrol must be sold at a profit...otherwise you get the mess of corruption, stealing, bad refineries, and massive smuggling. It is what is happening in Venezuela...and it isn't run by Nigerians when I last checked.

You don't understand what you are saying. How much for a barrel of crude, how much will it cost to trunk it to refinery? What is the cost of refining and distribution?
Now situate that against the cost of getting the crude, taking it to refineries in Venezuela and other countries to refine, cost of bringing in refined products back to Nigeria via vessels and then onward distribution to recipient organs.
Are you telling me the cost will remain the same in both scenarios? Won't there be a marked reduction?
You don't understand the intricacies in this oil industry in Nigeria. How did you think people like danjuma and co amassed so much wealth?
Leave matter. I don't want to say more than this

Anyways with all these stories of refineries up and down...fuel for don come down to at least ₦500 to ₦400

I'm disappointed. I expected you to say from #500 to #150 at least. And then with it time it'll crash to #100 or #80 per litre

Oga keep deceiving yourself. Removal of fuel subsidy was one of the major causes of the increase in hardship in the country. If local production cannot reduce the price, then there is no joy for the common man about local refining.

Whether you like it or not, the reduction in fuel price will be appreciated by Nigerians more than whatever 'paper gains' this government presents to the public.

Bring back the price of fuel and FX where you met them if you cannot take them lower. And don't brag about it because you have achieved nothing.

So of what use are the refineries if the price of fuel won't reduce? Like I don't get it. Oga the price of fuel is expected to drastically reduced to at least #200 or #150. If it won't reduce abeg what's now the need for the refineries? Is it to suck Nigerians dry?

The price will come down. No more landing cost, no more shipping cost etc. All these should naturally translate to reduced price

The reason for these refineries is to reduce the price of fuel bros. At least there should be competition in the market and the price of fuel should be cheaper.

Why would they build refineries and the prices of fuel would be the same or will even increase? U dey whine me?

Of what use are the refineries then if the prices won't reduce?

No, refineries, like every other business, exist to make money for the owner, shareholders and their running and maintenance

There may be a reduction in price as more refineries come on line, but the era of ultra cheap fuel is gone
