A massive crowd joyfully welcomed Governor Abba Yusuf back to Kano State on Sunday. His return follows a legal dispute over his position, with the Court of Appeal removing him as the Kano leader and declaring Nasiru Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the March 2023 poll. Despite this, Governor Yusuf challenged the decision, leading to the Supreme Court reserving judgment.

On Sunday, a large crowd gathered in the streets to welcome Governor Abba Yusuf back. Clad in the distinctive red attire of the Kwankwasiya movement, supporters expressed their solidarity through chants and displayed banners with messages like "Abba is our Choice" and "Justice for Kano" as they accompanied the governor's motorcade.

This enthusiastic welcome caused significant traffic delays, extending Governor Abba's journey from Malam Aminu Kano International Airport to Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium, Kofar Mata.

Supporters also shared videos and images on social media, making "Kano is Red," a reference to the Kwankwasiya movement's color, a prominent trend for the day.

Governor Abba, during his homecoming, inaugurated the training of 2,600 corporate security officers at Sani Abacha Stadium.

This event follows the Court of Appeal's November 13 verdict, upholding the tribunal's judgment that nullified Governor Yusuf's victory in the March 18 governorship election. The court ruled that Abba's candidacy violated electoral law, affirming Nasiru Gawuna as the duly elected governor of Kano, a decision consistent with the tribunal's earlier ruling in September.

I feel the judgment was temporarily put on hold due to the tension witnessed as a result of the Supreme Court verdict. Once everything is calm, they may go ahead and uphold the Supreme Court verdict.
