FG Says 128 Nigerian Travellers Enjoyed 50% Discount On Public Transport by thisweekng: 10:19am On Dec 26, 2023 |
On Monday, the Nigerian government under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu announced that a total of 128 individuals traveling from Abuja to various Northern destinations have availed themselves of a 50% discount on their transport fares. The Federal Ministry of Transportation, in a statement signed by its Director of Press and Public Relations, reported that its Situation Room Monitoring Team observed this development. The statement highlighted that drivers operating on inter-state routes have been adhering to the discounted fares as per President Tinubu’s directive. Specifically, travelers departing from Abuja and heading to destinations in the North, such as Gombe, Bauchi, Yola, and Maiduguri, have been transported to their destinations at only half the regular transport fares for each leg of their journey. The statement said, “As ALBON co-opts NURTW, implementing 50% discount on transport fares at yuletide gets a boost, 128 Nigerians enjoy Tinubu’s Renewed Hope discount on Christmas Day. “Implementing the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s for 50% discount on transport fares for Nigerians during the yuletide got a serious boost especially as one hundred and twenty-eight travellers from Abuja, who were bound for destinations in the North – Gombe, Bauchi, Yola and Maiduguri were freighted to their destinations paying only half of the transport fares charged for each of their destinations, as monitored by Federal Ministry of Transportation Situation Room Monitoring Team on Christmas Day. “Thanks to the proactive efforts of the Association of Luxury Bus Owners, travellers were able to enjoy a significant reduction in their transportation costs, with Clement Okuefuna overseeing the disbursement of the reimbursements at the Area 1 motor park in Abuja. “Notably, ALBON’s collaboration with the National Union of Road Transport Workers has effectively ensured that passengers are promptly refunded half of their fare payments upon boarding designated vehicles, thereby making the President’s transport palliative a reality.” “The last 16-seater passenger bus which loaded, got its passenger refunded half of the transport fares paid back to them and heading for Bauchi and Maiduguri rounded off the operation at Area 1 Motor Park, Abuja,” the statement added. SaharaReporters had reported that President Tinubu approved a 50 percent reduction in the prices of inter-state transport fares for Nigerians travelling during the Yuletide from December 21, 2023, to January 4, 2024. It also reported that the President approved free rides for commuters on all train services within the period. The Minister of Solid Minerals Development and Chairman of the inter-ministerial committee on presidential intervention, Dele Alake, had announced the administration’s gesture to State House Correspondents at the Aso Rock Villa. https://thisweekng.com/fg-says-128-nigerian-travellers-enjoyed-50-discount-on-public-transport/

128 passangers as the last count have been freighted from Abuja to four different states in the north. This was just the figures from the depature parks in Abuja out of the 36 states in the country. Definately, each state would have its own records. |
