The party or the new governor will pick his deputy.

The new governor will nominate a deputy governor-designate and forward the name to the State House of Assembly for ratification. After the House of Assembly confirmation, the deputy governor-designate will thereafter be sworn in by the Chief Judge of the State.

The Speaker can not play the role of the deputy governor in this case. Nobody plays the role of deputy governor until the governor forwards a name to the House of Assembly and the House ratifies it.


The speaker only plays the role of the executive as an acting governor in the event that a court (in this case, the Supreme Court) nullifies the election of the governor and orders a fresh election. Or if it happened that both the governor and deputy were unavailable to discharge their duties. This second scenario is almost impossible.

The new governor nominate somebody, send the name to the state assembly for Screening and Confirmation then swear in by the chief justice of the state.

There is no problem atal.. he has been sworn in and has full power as the Executive Governor of Ondo State.. It's now for him to pick a Deputy from his party APC obviously and send the person's name to the State assembly for confirmation after which the Chief Judge will swear-in the person. Lobatan.

Speaker of the house has no role here. He is not going to act anything. There's already a governor.

The governor and the political party will nominate a deputy which will be confirmed by the House of Assembly before he or she is sworn in by the Chief Judge.

Once the governor dies his deputy becomes the automatic acting gov until he's swear-in to take over as governor.

The role of deputy becomes a lacuna which the governor can sort by picking his own deputy or without one because since a new election can't be run prior to his confirmation as acting gov then the position of deputy will remain vacant and when something happens to him, the speaker of the house will replace him by law.
