This week, let's review the 26th hadith of the forty hadith of An-nawawih. For the past review, see here

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “Every joint of a person must perform a charity each day that the sun rises: to judge justly between two people is a charity. To help a man with his mount, lifting him onto it or hoisting up his belongings onto it, is a charity. And the good word is a charity. And every step that you take towards the prayer is a charity, and removing a harmful object from the road is a charity.” [Al-Bukhari] [Muslim]

The hadith expands the concept of charity beyond the traditional understanding of giving money or material possessions. It includes a wide range of actions, emphasizing that even small, everyday deeds can be considered charitable acts.

One of the highlighted actions is to "judge justly between two people." This underscores the significance of justice as a form of charity. Fair and just decisions contribute to the well-being of society and are considered virtuous acts.

Also, acts of physical assistance, such as helping someone with their mount or belongings, are recognized as charitable deeds. This encourages a sense of community and cooperation, emphasizing that lending a helping hand is a valuable contribution to society.

The hadith mentions that "the good word is a charity." This emphasizes the importance of using positive and kind language. Words have the power to uplift and inspire, and using them for good is considered a charitable act.

another charitable act that is mentioned in this hadith is removing a harmful thing from the road or from someone’s pathway. Some people may look at this as insignificant or unimportant. But this does not mean that the act is degrading. In the sight of Allah it is a great act and we will be rewarded for doing it. Doing such an act may prevent a terrible accident from happening. For example, omitting a nail from the street may prevent car accidents and consequently keep the safety of our community. We should not care about the comments of others because we are doing it for the sake of Allah. The more we have the intention that we are doing these charitable acts for the sake of Allah, the more will be the reward from Allah subhana wa ta’ala.
