How much is Ghanaian GDP?

You mean Nigerian students are contributing about 1-2% of their GDP?

Even S.Africa won't make much claims

My friend, not vexooooooooo. But how where you able to secure admission into university with this your village grammars. Men, I thought I was worst in writing but this is cracking my head off. My advice is that you need to go back to primary one because your first English teacher messed you up so bad. You must be in one of those university in Lesotho or Somalia but definitely not South Africa where their university rank among the best in the world. Now I see more reasons why Nigeria graduates are not even offer jobs within Nigeria.

Did you say you are a student of which university

This is the main reason i don't believe in university ranking.

So, your school ranked better than OAU?

I doubt if any Nigerian student/graduate can write this nonsense.

@topic

This is the biggest lie of the century. I have been trying to figure this out to no avail. The figure is cooked as usual. However, this is an urgent call to revisit our school system.

Sooner than later the story may become true.

I said this on another thread and someone though I was joking,

I schooled in Ghana!!

Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Tech alone can boast of over 2000 Nigerian Students, paying approximately 6000 dollars per year and spend approximately 5 years in Ghana. This does not include other overheads like pocket money and co.

THis free education thing na ehn dey spoil our schools. Let these universities start charging students proper money and let the states of the students set up Scholarship programs and education grants jor!! angry

Then let the rich pay for their kids, but lets the standard of the education be good.

Let them keep paying in all that money now. Since our government have refused to do anything about our educational system, the only thing that i'm going to say that everybody else keeps saying, is " Only God can help us".

Hmm, that Kwame Nkrumah UST seems to be popping up again and again.

One of my friends out here went there for college. Somehow did internships in the US and got hired straight out of college to work for a US tech firm I won't mention.

Granted, he is not typical. . . he was probably well above average at KNUST. But I don't think those type of job opportunities exist for even Ife, Ibadan or Unilag grads.

We (Nigeria) have got to step up our game, and stop trying foolish socialist ideas that don't work.

Naija Educational system is a huge joke, I do not blame those seeking better education abroad, I don't care its Ghana or Gambia, all I know is that our system is a disgrace. Teaching standards=0, so what do u expect?

Ten thousand Nigerian students (possible, but highly unlikely for Ghana) paying $5k a year is still around $50m annually.
This Mallam is a real head job sha.

It's very possible. Nigerians didn't start schooling in Ghana recently. As far back as 2001, Nigerians started looking at Ghana for schooling options. Then, the engineering degree was $6000+ dollars per session in KNUST (Kwame Nkrumah University). Imagine doing 4 years plus allowances. A lot of Nigerians spent money buying cars and the likes so you can imagine the extra amounts they spent too. Medical students paid as much as $7000 - $8000. Social sciences and law paid between $3000 and $4000 then. All this was early 2000s. I dunno about the school fees now but I know that a lot more Nigerians are in Ghana now than even then. What Nigerians spend alone in Ghana aside tuition is enough to make Sanusi's figure accurate. Agreed they have just about 6 universities but believe me that you will find a lot of Nigerians in each of them.

The combined effect of "free education" and military (mis)rule.

Education can never be free - there is no such thing as a free lunch - somehow somewhere we still pay for that "free education"

According to the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Malam Lamido Sanusi, 71,000 Nigerian students in Ghana currently pay an annual tuition of N155Billion to Ghana. Meanwhile the whole government budget for all Federal universities in Nigeria annually is a N121Billion.

The CBN Governor was drawing attention to the on-going serious capital flight from Nigeria.

Doesn't this call for a sober reflection? They only mentioned Ghana, what about the thousands of students in Malaysia (I hear there are so many of them there) in Europe, in India, in the US etc, paying trillions of Naira to get quality education. Meanwhile, you will hardly find foreign students in Nigeria. Obviously there's need to reform the education system in Nigeria. So instead of complaining about money leaving Nigeria, they should do something about improving the quality of education in this country, so parents will stop sending their kids abroad.

The country should break jooor.

Yes the problem with Nigeria is a low/poor mentality problem which causes us to build imaginary castles in the sky. We have to get 2 things right before talking about good universities and that is near constant electricity and good roads.
