I need an advice as regards my career

I just got a new job with a startup as a Business Analyst with Salary of 300k. Pension, health included

I am currently working in a well established company with a salary of 170k. Pension, healthcare included also

I am afraid of the unknown, there is comfort in my current company

Tomorrow 2nd will determine if I will resign or not. What if my current company decided to increase my Salary to 250k. Should I stay or not.

undecided

What if you get sacked by your company. Life is all about taking risk....nothing is certain

Yes please. Your company know what they are doing. Leave your comfort zone.

A lot of startups failed last year as purchasing power of most Nigerians is low

A lot of start ups may run out of funding

Slow and stable or fast but unstable

You think and decide which is better in the long term

Move to the new job. This is a 70%+ pay raise which you will not get at your current place.

Even if the startup company folds after 1 year, you can always beg the other one to take you back.

Be a man and make some extra money. 2024 is going to be tougher than what we have seen

70% increase is not enough to leave a job for another, especially when the new job is a new startup.
You need to consider other factors.

How well is the startup doing?
What is the growth experienced in a given period?
Do they make enough to be able to pay overhead without the need for new investors funding or bailout funds?
What kind of people make up the management, are they progressives, capitalists or socialists?

If you have the kind of management that believes in enjoyment and flexing above expansion, growth and re-investment, you are on your own.

I will rather stick with the old established company than move to a new startup with no track record.
Once funding budget is exhausted, crash and insolvency is imminent.

Reason you need to conduct proper research on this new startup.

At the same time, nothing is assured anywhere.
What is your risk appetite?
Are you risk aversed or open to taking risks?

Choose wisely.

Modified:
Let me share my personal experience.
I took a similar risk over a decade ago.

I was working with a small firm that was paying me 60k
Then I got a contract job with another firm that promised to pay 150k.
The contract would run for 1 year, so I was sure of 150k for 1 whole year.
I agreed with my wife to go for it while we saved the much we could.

Luckily, on starting the job. I was posted outside Lagos, I was getting 2k daily (outstation allowance). That's like 60k asides my salary of 150k.
Feeding and accommodation was taken care of.

At the end of the contract I was left without a job.
But while on the job, I made friends, met people whom I shared my resume with.

I got called by the very company where I was posted to while on the contract
Salary was x4.

Now it is getting better.

All I will say is, consider your options, pray then make a decision.

Ire oh.

Oga , stay back ooo
I am sure it's the village people that are bringing this fictitious 300k job to u. U will be stranded. I support risk taking but not this one .

As a rule of thumb, when changing jobs especially if you are comfortable where you are always make sure the salary upside is at least 50% of what you currently earn. Leaving where you collect 250k to collect 300k in a start-up is not a good decision.

That's my two cents.

I hope you've left your old company and accepted the new offer.

Imagine staying up to 1yr in the new company, which is almost the same as 2 yrs in your old company, you would have lost our on apprx. 1yrsalary by being with the old...

Don't accept even if the old company increase their pay, as you might get fired within 3 months because they feel you're not worth that amount hence the low pay.

It's naturally boring starting in a new place, but you'll get use to it.

Statistics have shown that people who jump between companies earn higher that people who remain in the same company over a period of time.

A good life is about making the right decisions, if the start-up allows you to get the job done remotely, you should probably go for that. If the start-up is less than 5years, stay where you are unless you have a high risk appetite or you are really skilled to land another job peradventure you lose the start-up job, above all seek God's directions, HE is the only one who knows the end from the beginning.

You should know the public sector barely pays as much as most private firms. Even a business analyst with roughly 3 years experience would earn more in basic salary than most professors.

This is a new year. Atleast make lies reduce. Startup... #300k Maybe they want to use you guys to test waters. An established coy was paying you #170k and a startup wants to pay you double for doing the same or lesser thing? The startup will definitely not last
It is normal for startups and new entrants to pay higher, because they need to attract experienced talents. Established coys trained you hence there is a tendency for you to earn lower. That is why people jump ship
