The major problems of this country is the calibre of people we elect as leaders. To me that program is a scam with no economic benefits. They should rather use the monies to buy text books and support the free education program for pupils in the primary schools. This will go a long way in providing financial relief for the parents not all this indomie and half egg they have been using to loot billions in the name of school feeding program.
One of the problem that you guys have is that, you always think Nigeria is rich but we are not. You will need trillions of naira if you want to run free education. This 100billion would have been use to build some modular refinery for us. That can serve only this country

Nigeria

Misplaced priorities everywhere. That money that can build one industry that will bring production and employment

Not really necessary.
What Nigerian tertiary education system needs is vocational training. That money would have been channeled to provide basic skilled training to students as young as 12 -15yrs from JSS3 upwards.
Basic training like: Welding, Brick laying, Capentery, Plumbers, Tailors, Enterprenurship training in fields of Agro production etc.
This will go along way to help them get busy with something after graduating (these were the macro-Sme's) Peter Obi was talking about.
Again it will help to adapt well instead of the jargon that they cramp on their note books. With these skill set, they can easily get employed in foreign countries thereby providing foreign back home in Nigeria.
Thinking long term is the goal not wasting money to feed people like our whole lives revolves around food.
If we should use that money have baking classes, provide computers fo crypto currency classes, provide brick laying machines and tiles making machines, tissues, plastic bottles, poultry, fish farming etc, across all these intended schools, that's over 15million youths pulled out of poverty.

You are writing queens English here because you are not facing malnourishmen or malnutrition. It is no joke kids need to feed well for brains to develop. As a doctor I can give you stat of malnourished kids in Nigeria,is staggering because parents are struggling to do so. If kids are not well feed their will be mass developmt of various sicknesses that cause spike in mortality rate. So, is not about mentality as you said,it is about mortality.

Very good. And how are we paying for this? More Loans.

100 billion in university scholarships for 200,000 students (500k each) would have been better.
which should be using that money to develop our manufacturing industries instead.

This is one of the signs of bad leadership. Nigeria's problem is leadership. Corruption is just the icing on the cake which can be tackled from a different dimension and aspect.
When you spend N100bn to feed school children for 8yrs, what do you get in return? Septic tank filled with N800bn human wastes that will cost a fortune to clear.
When you spend N800bn on youths for the next 8yrs what do you get?
Skilled sets, A generation that's already secured not dependant on the government, Million pulled out of poverty, the emergence of the Middle class in Nigeria, Small scale/Industries and Investments springing up here and there, influx of forex etc..
The N800bn, nobody is giving money to anyone. Government has provided the environment for you to better your life even when after school, you can start up something with little or no capital.
Investing in vocational training is something that will pay off on the long run.
