i disagree with your last point, appointing indigene as commissioner might not be productive as it can leads to ethnic issue whereby the commisioner might wanna settle score with other tribe, but bringing others from another tribe like hausa to yoruba will brin about level playing field like football whwere you cant appoint referee from any of the two teams
Godfullsam:
Every state should have its own private security like the ESN and the South West security network.

I think it will be more effective if every state should have their own instead of region.
The state security network can engage to services of purely trained locals of the state/communities.

FG should also ensure that the commissioner of police in each states should be indegene of the state.

What is Abiodun doing in Niger state as a commissioner of police?

Please, my Igbo people, stop commenting on other tribe's family affairs. Remember that no tribe in this country ever support or ask for justice when we had internal conflict; they always either laugh at us or condemn us and praise the group or person's battling us. And they also always take offense whenever we decry or ask for justice in their own internal conflicts. Learn how to live in Nigeria and see how you will enjoy peace of mind. Happy new year.

Very close to Abuja I think ... We must begin to carry guns to avoid unwarranted bloodbath .. the criminals are increasing in strength by the day while our Kaki men keep telling us stories ...seems the changed of guards has no meaning again .. too much corruption is killing the military and the police .. in any case they are doing themselves the most not Nigerians

They have so far imposed restriction on free movement of goods and persons, forcing people to pay levies before doing so, residents said.

Terrorists, locally dubbed as bandits, have again carved out a territory in Nigeria's Niger State, imposing taxes on residents and some Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

The bandits have reportedly occupied Dogon-Dawa, Kurege, Kangarewa and Mangoro communities among several others; “governing” the entire areas according to their own rules.

They have so far imposed restriction on free movement of goods and persons, forcing people to pay levies before doing so, residents said.

"Last Sunday we were forced to cough out N3.5million levy, before the vehicles conveying our luggage were allowed to leave," a displaced person told journalists.

The bandits have also imposed levy on crops, forcing farmers to pay before they would be allowed to harvest farm produces.

"The situation has worsened such that even IDPs who want to leave the area have to pay certain levy before they can go.

"They (bandits) have turned the area into their own territory, operating unchallenged," according to a local source.

Vehicles exiting the area are charged to pay N200,000 to N300,000. In some cases three vehicles combined are compelled to pay N1million before leaving.

When contacted on the matter, the spokesperson for the police in Niger State, Wasiu Abiodun, promised to investigate and get back.

PressMyButton:
Niger state is the biggest state in Nigeria, it is three times the size of the whole SE, a LG is almost the size of Abia state. The terrain of the North is as complex as the creeks in the Nigerdelta. The size of the north with its porous borders makes it extremely difficult in comparison to the number of soldiers per sq km. I suggest a more robust grassroot synergy, a strong determination by both traditional and religious leaders in the fight against banditary. The defence HQ should also scale up the use of drones and advanced tech inorder to bridge any lapses. If you think the Army ain't doing enough, let's withdraw the troops for 48 hours and see if you'd sleep in your house talking trash behind your keyboard.
