The name

The 23rd Bond film will officially be called Skyfall it was announced today.


Director Sam Mendes said the movie would not be connected to the last two films - Quantum of Solace or Casino Royale.


Mendes added that the movie would be 'its own story' while the name 'has some emotional meaning, which will be revealed in the film'.

Bond Girls

French actress Bérénice Marlohe revealed that she has joined the cast as 'a glamorous, enigmatic character called Severin' while Naomie Harris - who was rumoured to be up for the role of Moneypenny - will play a field agent called Eve.

The baddie

Javier Bardem will play the baddie in the movie but the Spanish Oscar winner said his character was just 'misunderstood'.


He said: 'Who told you a villain is a bad person? For me, it's an honour to be at this table for many reasons. It will be fun to do.'

Unclothedness

Daniel Craig has promised to take his top off in the film claiming it is part of 'the gig' when it comes to playing James Bond.

New additions

Ben Whishaw, Albert Finney and Ralph Fiennes will also be joining the cast but none of the actors were present at the press conference.

Locations

Filming starts today in London's Whitehall and the movie will also shoot in Shanghai, Istanbul and Scotland.

Daniel Craig

Daniel Craig could be returning as James Bond after Skyfall.


When asked if he would return to the role after the movie had wrapped, Craig said: 'If I could do this for a few more years then I'll be happy.'

Action

Mendes promised the film will be action-packed but added that: 'The action needs to co-exist with the drama. That's the balance we have to strike.'


He also said he wasn't concerned about winning Oscars for the movie.


'It's not the reason you do a movie and not the reason you do a Bond movie. For me, Bond movies are for the audience and what happens afterwards is out of my hands.'

Old characters

Three familiar James Bond characters could be returning to the movie but filmmakers refused to name them.

Judi Dench

Dame Judi Dench's character M will be central to the plot as her past comes back to haunt her and the MI6 'comes under attack'.
