A former federal lawmaker and human rights activist, Senator Shehu Sani, has commended President Bola Tinubu’s cost-cutting directive on travel expenses, urging state governors to follow suit.

LEADERSHIP reports that President Tinubu approved a directive to slash the size of official delegations for foreign and domestic trips by up to 60% for top government officials.

Taking to his X account (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, Shehu Sani described the initiative as a right step in the right direction.

He wrote: “The 60% slashes in foreign and local travel expenses of the President, VP and other top Government officials is a commendable step in the right direction.

“Cutting the cost of Governance is indispensable in any serious economic reform. We are beginning to remind ourselves that we are a developing country with multiple economic needs and realising the urgency to cut wastage and extravagance.

“State Governors should follow suit and plough the proceeds to basic or vital needs of their people.”

8 months into this administration, facing challenges of an 8yrs administration just because you entered through the window.

If not for the power of Social Media and the public outcry, Tinubu and his Owambé crew will be trotting the world with entourage with Item 7 (Toke) by the corner.

See how he entered Lagos the other day.

We are watching, but this won't distract us from the corruption that has enveloped this administration. All eyes on Betta Thief Edu and Tunji-Ojo but something is going on with Keyamo.

Let's wait and see.

I guess he has started listening to his advisers who are relaying the pulse of the masses to him.

Noticed also that his son, Seyi now has less visibility these days.

While the slash is commendable, I am surprised no one is saying anything about the office of the first lady. I guess we just don't like doing things right and enjoy playing to the gallery too much.

If not that our political class do not respect or fear Nigerians, should they even be spending money globetrotting when the economy needs attention? Cost of living has risen but salaries remain the same... Nigeria pays one of the lowest salaries in the world.

It's only in Nigeria where you see people suffering, inflation rising and the cost of 'governance' keeps rising...
