He can dethrone him, he should thread carefully.

He can’t dethroned him. Can a governor dethroned Ooni of ife, Oba of Benin, Aalafin of Oyo or Oba Alaye of Abeokuta?

Though constitutional, state governor are ones paying all these traditional rulers through local govt.

Governors can only useless the post, he can’t dethroned him

If you close to Soludo, please advise him to do that.
I want to check something.

Soludo will be bundled out of government house even with a battalion of soldier guarding him.

That's not true.
Nnewi and Onitsha have traditional rulers long before the Whites set their feet in Igboland.

Tell him.

The traditional stool of nnewi and Onitsha existed way long before British arrived.

Nnewi stool is also hereditary.

For your information, Obi of Onitsha is answerable to the Onitsha North LG Chairman, then the commissioner. The Governor is far from him. Obi of Onitsha will be warned about this as an elder but any other misstep, off the throne.

I agree with Obi of Onitsha.

But more importantly,
There is no thing traditional about igwe's and obi's in Igboland of which Anambra is part of.

They were started by British invaders as a means to subdue the people, Igbo had no chiefs, talk less of warrant Chiefs, nor Kings.

Nze and Ozo were socio political Societies, with Pyramid structures that allowed several people to provide leadership based on their level of title in the society. It is similar to a parliamentary government, with no Prime minister, only the leadership of the House. There morality and court were provided by Nri theocracy through the transfer of Ofo!

Soudo- can we stop deceiving ourselves. Do away with all the Igwes and Obi and replace them with the people's congress (which we have as town unions already) led by three elected persons forming a trinity to be known as Mayor or some igbo name 'Izu'. Trinity so they countercheck each other. Pass a law that establishes them as an extension of the state Government, but synchronize with Local government ment laws by electing them as councillors. This will make for faster more people oriented development, and also force the judicious use of local Goverment funds as they can be shared for community administration by the state Government irrespective of who answers local Government Chairman. You make the non performing Local Govt. Chairmen redundant.

Please Anambra is not in the league of your community that is headless.

Traditional institution existed in Anambra communities before the arrival of the Whiteman.

Nnewi alone has a long standing stool even before British set foot in Nigeria and it has been like that till this day

These traditional rulers have no power under the constitution and are under the control of the local govt chairmen. If Obi is not careful, they will show him the other side of politics and he will be gone.

You don't understand when they say hereditary. Hereditary id not ruling house(Being entitled to the throne, once you are a prince) but rather from father to the first son of the king. If the Oba of Benin is removed/died today, his first son will automatically take over. It's not contestable nor do they have any kingmaker that will choose the next king for the kingdom out of numerous princes of the kingdom

Why is the Obi surprised?
Igbos as a matter of culture and character don’t have respect for anyone, not even their elderly ones or their monarchs.
Money is the only thing/deity most Igbos worship and adore.

Is it because he gave a constructive criticism that he should be afraid of being removed?

This is why Nigeria and it's leadership get more rotten each day.

Besides, Obi's main problem is that the letter from the state government ridiculed all the traditional rulers put together, which was unfair.

He has every right to talk back at the government.

Do u know the story?

In the 19th century, disputes over trade led to strain between Benin and its chief trading partner, Great Britain. This escalated as the European powers moved to divide Africa into colonial territories. The situation culminated in 1897, when a large delegation led by Britain’s Acting Consul-General in the region, James Phillips, set off for Benin City despite requests from Oba Ovonramwen (enthroned c. 1888) to postpone their visit.

On January 12, the British delegation was ambushed by an Edo force that by all accounts acted without the oba’s knowledge. Almost the entire party was killed, including Phillips. In quick order, a large British military force—deemed the Punitive Expedition—was assembled, and on February 18, they arrived in Benin City under orders to invade and conquer it. In time they captured Oba Ovonramwen and sent him into exile to Calabar, a town east of Benin.

With these events, the daily routines of the royal court were disrupted and the Edo people were severed from their leaders. Objects within the royal palaces were now the spoils of war, many of which were sold to defray the costs of the invasion. Others were shared among members of the expeditionary force. Still others left Benin in the confusion that followed the devastation of the kingdom.

Upon their arrival in London, Benin’s royal arts were a topic of conversation and speculation. They sparked immediate interest from museums, particularly in Britain and the German-speaking world, which made efforts to purchase the objects for their collections. Eventually works from Benin could be found in museums across Europe and the United States.

Oba Ovonramwen died in exile in 1914, the same year that his son returned to Benin City and was crowned Oba Eweka II. Benin’s monarchy was thus restored

Again, it's hereditary

How does one change the other. It is hereditary and Oba Ovonramwen was deposed.

An Oba can be deposed and his son will become Oba after an interregnum, just as it happened with Oba Ovonramwen.

The fact that a traditional stool is hereditary does not mean that the holder of the stool cannot be deposed. It has happened many many times.

If na by following book and it's principle....there will be nothing as rigging in any election. There will be nothing as bribing

If caught....you be termed one that lacks integrity and will be punished severely so says our Social studies

But is that so in Nigeria??

If soludo should dare go head on with obi of Onitsha
1.... Onitsha, obosi and hot blooded boys for that side will terminate soludo

2. 2nd tenure will be as dead as rotten fish

3. Isuofia people (soludo hometown) go collect generational beating in Onitsha

Not as easy as that. Obi of onitsha stool is only influential and not that powerful. Secondly, onitsha as a town doesnt have enough voting strength to determine much. Its indigenes are at the fringes of the state to also determine much. Obi of onitsha stool is still under contention even till today. Soludo can still dethrone him and win reelection, but it will leave a lot of bruises. In anambra today, those who have monumental influence are the pgs of various town unions. Theyre all appendages of the gov. The igwes are only restricted to tradition and culture preservation.

This is a great suggestion. A very succinct suggestion.
But as for my personal take, it will all end in the same way. Leadership in Africa from the grassroot is just too self centred. Believe me, which ever method you bring these people will always find a way of embezzlement. On a normal level, the three arms of government we have are supposed to check each other and hold each other responsible. But once they reach there they are all one irrespective of region. Their only mission is to embezzle as much as they can, together.

I don't know why Africans once they attain a position, looting and intimidation is the first thing that comes to their mind. They will become so far to the people u won't recognise them again.

It's a brilliant suggestion, but personally, I believe they will still come together to embezzle
