You haven't really made a case for retired soldiers being made NSA. Not that career politicians are necessarily a better fit but you haven't said exactly why retired soldiers are a better choice.

There are retired soldiers today who are members of your national council of state only because they were successful coup plotters and became head of state after leading one military junta or another. This country has been fighting boko haram insurgents for over a decade now without an end in sight - and retired soldiers have not been able to explain why boko haram isn't history.

These days, the phrase 'for security reasons' is almost meaningless. The position of NSA should be given to the best man for the job - and he doesn't have to be a retired soldier.

Did people notice something here or is it just me? The story is about the Liegerian National Security Advisor (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu supposedly meeting with his US counterpart, Jake Sullivan. But the picture is that of Ribadu shaking hands with the Assistant Deputy Secretary, Victoria Nuland. My question is: "Where's the picture of Mr. Sullivan and Ribadu if both men met or did Mr. Sullivan refuse to be seen together with Mr. Ribadu?" If it's neither, then as always, the government is lying to its citizens.
