Hmmmm.
This is not Good news for those big butts women that use take-away plates to steal party rice in owambe parties.

But Lagos state govt are not even serious. Instead of seeing opportunity in the threat situation, and create mediums thru which they can create wealth and job opportunities by recycling these take-away plastics wastes, they want to kill the industries that manufacture the products.
Our leaders are bereft of innovative ideas that will spur development.
Mumu govt with mumu decision.
Actually, you are the one bereft of ideas in your haste to abuse the government as we all are wont to do.Firstly, this will increase the manufacture/ importation of multi/use plastics as well as create a market for paper utensils and paper bags. It is left for the investor/ entrepreneur to channel their funds/hustle towards what does not harm the environment.
There is a direct correlation between styrofoam packaging and flooding. Would you rather a flooded Lagos than a ban on the cause?

The Lagos State Commissioner for Environment & Water Affairs should calm down and take things easy. This is peoples solely source of income and I believe there should be time frame to this.

Solely source of income that is having negative effects on our environment? So many countries have stop using styrofoam packs....

Have you thought about eateries running businesses, restaurants, canteens, bottle water, bottled minerals and so on, there is a value chain here, do you know how many businesses might crumble and thousands if not millions that might lose work....

So they should leave it abi?

Following the post COP28 footsteps of the UAE.

UAE is passing the use out gradually and not abruptly the way uncle Sanwo wanna do his.

Is UAE an authority on how to phase this plastic and styrofoam out? Why do you guys always try to compare Nigeria with other countries in whatever suit you

Most of you just come online and type jargons.

Saner climes - who taught you guys this annoying word.

ITbomb:
In saner climes, there would have commissioned a research for alternative.
And promote the alternative when announcing the phase out of the Styrofoam

Only loans them sabi borrow, ideas no join..

I remember during Rochas' tenure in Imo State when the government was combatting excessive dumping of pure water sachets the government started paying pure water companies an amount of money per 50kg of sachets they submit to the government. Sachet water hawkers would sell to a customer and wait until the customer drinks the water and they'll collect the empty sachet and keep, because the sachet water companies pay them a small amount for each empty sachet they submit. The companies would, in turn, submit the sachets to the government and get paid while the government recycles the sachets.

Owerri was very clean because of this.

That's how to solve such issues, not by banning outrightly

Did I hear you say importation of alternatives??
Is importation the solution?
If the plastic takeaways are causing flooding, is there a way to stop it by establishing pick up stations for onward recycling to better utilize them and prevent flooding?
You are even dumber than I thought.

If you've seen the drainages, canals and the streets in Lagos, you'd appreciate this ban.
It's littered everywhere. People will just not properly dispose them, even while driving they flip it through the window.
Let them find a more environmentally friendly alternative...
And hope it's not black nylon tongue

I’m sure you are aware of the age-old saying “prevention is better than cure” so, by definition my stance of no importation is superior to your pick up station idea.

You saw importation/manufacture but you chose to ignore the manufacture part because you want to reply in a dubious manner. And in a bid to sound actually intelligent, you have outed yourself as not having a grasp of reality nor the facts of the matter.

Also, you realize that this policy is going to encourage plastic recycling regardless of your weak, watery opinion right?

Don’t make it a habit to criticize the government before you think.
