According to the newspaper, DCI detectives discovered the duo hiding in an apartment in Ndenderu, Kiambu County, not far from where Waeni’s head was later found.

DCI’s Criminal Research and Intelligence Bureau tracked the suspects using leads and evidence collected from the Kasarani crime scene.

Constable Benjamin Wangila from Kasarani DCI offices informed a Makadara court that the suspects’ proximity to the discovery of body parts strengthened the case against them.

Something found at the crime scene linked the police to the suspects.

It is not for me to sit in my house and speculate as to their guilt or innocence but alleging that the sole reason is because they are Nigerians is also false - if we are both reading from the same report.

Now I am sure you may agree with me that a hatchet is not the most effective tool for self-defence. A machete or cutlass is more effective and also easier to find. But that's not to say it is not possible. The point, rather, is that it is suspicious.

So let the police investigate and take them to Court. We know very well that Nigerians are indeed capable of doing exactly what has happened here so while we cannot and ought not to rush to procure a social media conviction, I think a bit of integrity requires that we also refrain from playing the xenophobia card too early. We really don't know what happened here but the signs are not looking good.
