Punch is right, we can't keep spending trillions of naira every other year repairing the refineries when clearly the workers there will sabotage it. Yaradua made a very wrong decision reversing the sales of those refineries to Dangote. Best is to sell the refineries and invest the proceed in roads, healthcare system and agriculture. Govt has no business in doing business and let's leave oil business to private sector let them compete and crash the price while govt limit it function to regulation and oversight.

How is the Punch right?
Have you tried other Countries that are just like NNPC e g Saudi Arabia have ARAMCO - is their own NNPC and today, ARAMCO is leading Oil Giant, making good returns to the Saudi 35Million People, that other Countries are trying to find out how they are so Profitable and making returns!
The Problems is the NNPC,so Fraudulent, that for decades,no returns was made to Nigerian People!
-As if Oil Businesses is not a good business but is a lie!
-First,the NNPC should be changed - including the top Management and the MD.They have been there for too long!
-President Tinubu should appoint a Minister of Petroleum, not himself,as other Presidents have done before him- so he will monitor and be able to put blame where necessary!
- We Nigerians do forget easily - if we don't have a Body to Control and Monitor a big Oil Sector like this, how do we want to leave this Oil- Sector in the hands of the Sharks-Oligopoly and we start saying - nobody is Controlling the Sector- for we can't afford to fail.
Let NNPC be but reform it like ARAMCO of Saudi Arabia!

When they handed over the management of our toll gates to private individuals,it was a big mess .. I don't subscribe to the Govt idea of handing over the refineries to private hands fir management... It will be paddy paddy management as usual .. can't these leaders be brave to do the right thing for ones. They just want to destroy the future of this nation .
- We need men that will enforce the right control in all sectors of our economy .

JEG did not sold the power sector, he privatised "Power Distribution" the improvement of power still vested on FG. That the same thing Tinubu is trying to do here. According to editorial;

"Just recently, the state-owned oil giant stunned the public by stating that it has completed the rehabilitation of the 210,000-barrel per day Port Harcourt Refinery in Rivers State with a loan of $1.5 billion and is seeking private hands to operate and maintain it.* The NNPC will hold on to its overall management."

Is Saudi Arabia as corrupt as Nigeria? Has Saudi Arabia spent $25billion to repair refineries in the last 10years and produce nothing? Do you think Saudi Arabia would spent such amount of on moribund refineries that produces barely nothing?

Nigeria has 4 different refineries with a combined capacity of 445,000 per day and already spent $25billion to repair them in the last 10years whereas Dangote built a completely new refinery with a capacity to produce 650,000 for just $20billion. If you are the manager of such company, would you advice the govt to keep pumping huge money on such moribund refineries?

If Yaradua had allowed the sales to stand and the $25billion had been invested on road network, healthcare, electricity among others do you think we will be in this state by now?

If not for the inefficiency of the govt and the corruption plaguing NNPC, the government of the day should be the one in charge of these large industries. I keep saying it, that we should emulate China and follow their economic trajectory. But the west will tell you that govt shouldn’t be doing business, thereby giving multinationals and big corporations power over govt.

Sighs!!!

Is the level of corruption in China the same, with that in nigeria?

If the government was still in control of the telecoms sector, you would not ,have had the privilege of having Internet to type this your writeup.

Selling national resources isn't the best decision in this country, the best is the management of the resources should be put to those who wish the country well..Not all these politician and corrupted people who believe looting is the only ways they can enrich themselves..On the issues of security, Politician and spiritualist are the one destroying the pipeline, and by the Grace of God..they are going to be disgraced..we should learn to run socialist system of government, not everything should be capitalist system of government..
