OBA's Scholarship Scheme Produces 47 More Graduates, as Payment of Fees for New Session Commences

Forty-Seven students who were beneficiaries of Senator Bassey Albert Akpan's Scholarship Scheme completed their respective programmes at the end of the 2022/2023 academic session, with nine graduating with first-class honours, while Thirty-Five bagged second-class upper division.

The scholars enrolled as beneficiaries during the second qualifying examination (2019) were majorly from Medicine and Surgery, Pharmacy, and Engineering disciplines.

According to a recent appraisal, Ediomo Okon, who graduated from the Department of Civil Engineering, Akwa Ibom State University, with a CGPA of 4.78 during the 2022/2023 academic session, and 51 others have so far bagged first-class honours since the inception of the scheme in 2016, while more than 300 others also graduated with second class upper honours.

Four Hundred and Eighty One (481) Akwa Ibomites have benefited from the scheme since its inception eight years ago. Some of the beneficiaries are currently on various post-graduate programmes, while a good percentage have advanced in their fields of speciality.

In a related development, payment of tuition fees for beneficiaries of the scheme for the 2023/2024 academic session has commenced.

Confirming the development, a management team member, Dr. Promise Etim, said the timely payment of the tuition fee was to allow the beneficiaries to focus on their studies while gearing towards achieving their goals for the academic session.

He expressed gratitude to Senator Bassey Albert for sustaining the sponsorship even after his tenure as Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Speaking to journalists in Uyo, Dr. Etim said the gesture is a unique demonstration of Senator Albert's love for his people, as many would have abandoned the students after their tenure without recourse to their well-being and the future.

According to him, the scheme is a social contract of the Distinguished Senator with Akwa Ibom Youths who desire academic inclination. He said the programme is structured to promote healthy competition and scholarship.
