An elderly woman from Pretoria in South Africa has been arrested at a Shoprite store for using fake money to buy groceries.

It is alleged that the money is from her Nigerian son-in-law who had just paid them 95,000 rands (4,6 million naira) bride price with fake money.

Police have now arrested four members of the family who were found in possession of the fake money paid for lobola by a Nigerian man known as Kelechi Johnson Adegoke.

The Nigerian son-in-law paid them with hard cash during the lobola (bride price) payment. The money rotated amongst family members up until the mother went to buy groceries at Shoprite.

It alleges that the mother didn't believe when she was told that her money was fake. Police were summoned to the store and she was arrested at the scene.

Only about R40,000 (N1,9 million) was recovered from the family members while the rest was allegedly spent.

There's a proverb in Yoruba land that says even if you're given a bad name, you try as much as possible not to live up to that name in order to prove them wrong

Nigerians are seen as fraudulent people, drug traffickers, human traffickers etc.foreigners don't even trust what many Nigerians say again and now these ones have given them more reasons to cast aspersion on Nigerians

A South African is on a Nigerian forum calling us criminals and all sorts of names.
Some one committed a crime instead of this South African to condemn the person, he tells us that he was not brought up properly by insulting an entire nation of over 220 million people spread over 500 tribes.
This South African will then claim he is not xenophobic.
Please my fellow Nigerians, judge this matter.

Seun and Mynd44, you people are not see this one oh.

What are the names of the SA women caught with the counterfeit money and what court have they been charged to?

I know this is an election year in SA and immigration is one of the key issues on the ballot, so I anticipate a lot of propaganda

A Nigerian can be that but names are commonly according to paternal lineages. So a patriarchal society like ours will rarely combine names from two tribes.
As for Segun Arinze, that is his stage name and a simple Google search will show his real name.
