Anambra Commissioner Tasks Communities To Take Ownership Of Gov't Projects

Commissioner for Housing in Anambra State, Hon. (Barr.) Pauly Onyeka, has called on the Agulu community in Anaocha local government area, to ensure that government projects such as the newly renovated modern fire station construction in their area is protected from vandalisation.

The commissioner was represented by the Director of Building Construction and Maintenance Department, Ministry of Housing, Mr. Ojeleke Samuel, at the official handing over ceremony of the Agulu Fire Station to the Ministry of Power and Water Resources for on ward transfer to the Anambra State Fire Service for the benefit of state.

Hon. Onyeka noted that the state governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, is very desirous to extend democracy dividends to the people, calling on them to protect those facilities from theft and vandalization, because, according to him, government cannot afford to waste resources.

Earlier in their remarks, the representative of the Commissioner of Power and Water Resources, Engr Chukwuma Julius, and the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mrs Ify Uzoka, appreciated Governor Soludo for his intervention and revitalization of the abandoned Agulu Fire Station, and suggested that for maximum protection of those facilities, perimeter fencing should be erected to protect the fire offices, as well as the facilities on ground.

He commended the work executed by the contractors, and urged him to continue to sustain the already established security architecture established by the construction of company to prevent undue encroachment into the facility, pending when the fence is put in place.

The director of Anambra State Fire Service in the ministry of Power and Water Resources, Dr Martins Agba, cally for collaboration between the ministry and the agency to ensure that they did not encroach into other people's boundary.

The Agulu Modern Fire station has three building blocks comprises of fire truck station, office block bore hole and plant house constructed by Feister Technical Service Limited, owned by Barrister Chizoba Nnagboo.
