Ethel Ekpe (Aderemi) Dies Of Cancer by Enugudaily: 6:13pm On Feb 08
Veteran actress, Ethel Ekpe, who adorned the Nigerian entertainment screen, died of cancer on Wednesday in Lagos State.

The late actress played the role of ‘Segi’ in the defunct sitcom on Nigerian Television Authority by Ken Saro Wiwa titled ‘Basi and Company.’

Ekpe also featured in Amaka Igwe’s ‘Forever’ and the ‘Sons of the Caliphate.’

The news of her death was announced by the Director-General, National Film and Video Censors Board, Dr. Shaibu Husseini, in a late Facebook post on Wednesday.

Husseini wrote, “I have been reliably informed that Ethel Ekpe, (Ethel Aderemi nee Ekpe), the screen beauty that delighted fans with her inimitable interpretation of the role of Segi in the defunct sitcom on Nigerian Television Authority by Ken Saro Wiwa titled ‘Basi and Company’ has passed on.

“The actress and later day Pastor and star of Amaka Igwe’s ‘Forever’ and most recently ‘Sons of the Caliphate” reportedly died of Cancer today in Lagos.”

“She will be sorely missed,” adding that his family “will particularly miss her because we named my second daughter Ethel, after her. Good night good woman!”

Just a little side talk!

Ladies, just wanna share this with you. A lot of things contribute to a high chances of cancer.

Lipstick is one of them. so stopping lipsticks can reduce the risk of cancer to an extent.

Sorry, I forgot to come back to this.

It's just like the Papa Ajasco situation, there were more than one Segi. Mildred Iweka was the first and most popular Segi, but remember that she also acted in Checkmate (as Nduka's wife) and, if I remember correctly, there was a time that she was pregnant and took a break from acting.

Anyway, I remember that there were a lot of personnel changes at Basi and Company. Albert Egbe was the first Basi, but Zulu Adigwe later took over the role. Tekena Harry McDonald was the first Alali, but someone else later took over the role.

naptu2:
1) Basi

2) Zulu Adigwe (I didn't quite get used to him. I always preferred the person that acted that role before him. He didn't quite get the Mr B walk).

3) Albert Egbe (I first saw him in Jagua Nana's daughter in 1987. He acted alongside Richard Mofe-Damijo and Chinua Achebe's daughter. That was also the first time that I saw Richard Mofe Damijo [he was credited as Evans Mofe Damijo).

4) Basi And Company (8pm on NTA Network from c1988-1990).

5) It was written by Ken Saro Wiwa. He later published a couple of books that were based on the sitcom (I still have one of them). There were many clues within the sitcom that he was the one that wrote it. The most popular beer at Dandy's bar was called Saros Beer and I think there was an episode that featured a bank called Saros Bank.

Mildred Iweka was (of course) my favourite Segi.

Basi And Company (The Transistor Radio).

Get your facts right Ethel was the original Segi before she was substituted with Mildred. Just like Mr B too was substituted

This year also promises good tidings as I foresaw and I have aligned well in the scheme of things. Do well to reposition yourself too.
