Can Nigerian lawyers equally practice in the same capacity in the UK? Just asking, because our folks in government sabi mumu.
How can a Nigerian lawyer practiced in UK and UK's lawyer in Nigeria, when the 2 countries have different laws and system of government?

How will that work out?

Oh please.

UK law firms are not an arm of the UK government.

The idea that the UK can forcefully deploy soldiers and build UK-owned barracks in Nigeria is preposterous.

UK doesn't have the power or the means to do that.

The most powerful country in the world, the USA, asked to station its military in Nigeria to help combat ISIS and other terrorists in the Sahel. Nigeria declined. The US went to Niger instead.

Nigeria is not a small country. A country of over 200 million people no be beans.

The US can't push Nigeria around let alone small, broke UK.

Every country owned business whether govt or private citizen is an arm of its government.. that you don't know this means you're not knowledgeable.

u:s and u:k are one and the same people..

All those who "negotiated" on behalf of Nigeria must be sacked and even prosecuted, including Doris, the Federal Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment of Nigeria. You must have been bribed to enter such a deal. Can anyone be that clueless? No sane person can accept this predatory agreement.

Not surprised by the actions of the UK. They colonized us after all. This is our own Rwanda agreement.

We do IELTS to attend their schools but one blockhead is signings deal that will allow their lawyers practice here.

I have Nigerian friends who practiced there but were not allowed to practice law there. These people read law in UK Universities o. They told me because of accent or so...that they DON'T employ them. Some go back to cleaning and security jobs.

APC have finally signed away the destiny of Nigerian law graduates.

UK lawyers can now take their jobs, but no Nigerian lawyer or corrupt Judge like Kekere-Ekun can go near the British temple of Justice.

More charge-and-bails loading.

If it isn't a two-way deal (i.e. also allowing Nigerian lawyers to practise in the UK) then it makes no sense.

That's another form of economic exploitation cos it would make Nigerian law firms irrelevant to people who would have hired them from the UK.

Don't suspect anything, it's a continuation of exploitation of the weak and unserious by the strong and serious - usual relationship of unequal partners due to no one's fault.

there is hardly any bad thing on national level going on in Africa that its not the oyinbo who run africa behind it

I am sure it should be a bilateral agreement. Can we practice in UK? Has the UK removed their own barriers?

Make them no worry. Adjournment go make them go back.

1. Nigerian lawyers have been able to practice in the UK for a long time by writing a simple test called the Qualified Lawyers Transfer test. Even without the test, you can still practice, just that you have to inform prospective clients you are a 'Foreign Lawyer'.

2. UK law firms that set up office in Nigeria will primarily be targeting commercial/business/cross-border transactions. 99% of their work willl be office based. It is unlikely you'll see them wearing a robe and appearing in a court, even though though they might be able to do so.

These people are not coming here to handle Chieftancy, land, election matters, or Mr A ran away with my wife type of cases grin etc

They will be targeting big transactions.
Interesting.
Thanks.

You're actually the airhead here, because it is on record that we had the best of education during the colonial era with university of Ibadan being a campus of the university college London. Many of our professors and professionals today were educated by the colonial masters. Then Nigerians didn't need visa to travel abroad and many were offered scholarships to study in choice universities abroad.

Infrastructures done by colonial masters were of high quality. Those roads and bridges constructed by the British colonial leaders stood the test of time. Our people got the best of healthcare as British doctors were the ones in charge of healthcare. Same British doctors were the ones who later trained our people on orthodox medicine which then replaced our crude and ineffective traditional medicine practice.

The list goes on

South Africa is much more developed today than Nigeria because the colonial masters stayed longer there compared to Nigeria that hurriedly got Independence only for our evil and selfish politicians to start looting our common wealth instead of developing the country. Sometimes, I wish that the colonial masters stayed longer in Nigeria. I'm sure the country would have been better than it is today.
Stop saying what you don't know.

Go and learn your true history from Black authors of Black history and not just read. Your forefathers were already educated and civilized before a white man even knew what education was.
.
They stole your education and destroyed it and made you believe in your soul that you were never educated until they had contact with you.

Learn your own history written from "renowned" and "unrenowned" Black scholars.

I dey really pity the Black man grin grin

That's another question that needs to be answered by those who are signing this deal.

Do we have honest lawyers in Nigeria that can say things as it is. I pray our liers in Nigeria did not corrupt the foreign lawyers. Nigerian liers can defend anything anywhere anyway and anyhow just for money

This is a serious blow to the Nigerian law school. The only thing that keeps the NLS from deteriorating is the lack of private competitors. How will the quality of education be preserved when the privileged have no reason to care?
Re: UK Signs Deal To Allow British Lawyers Practise In Nigeria by Neddyogu(m): 11:30pm On Feb 13
Just sign off the country to the British crown and revert to protectorate status already. Next British judges on our bench, or Scotland yard special branch office in Abuja. Sha make we just begin use Pound sterling joor.

But on second thought, if them Brits would be evaluated and certified by our legal council, no wahala.

Very good question if nigerian lawyers can't practice in the UK then the deal is totally useless cause it will mean british lawyers are coming to take away jobs from nigerian lawyers this is obviously one of the effects of british leaving the European union.

You're actually the airhead here, because it is on record that we had the best of education during the colonial era with university of Ibadan being a campus of the university college London.

Kai...Pitiful.

So let me get this.

The British ruled you for NEARLY A CENTURY uninterrupted. And in that time they exported your resources - cocoa, palm oil, rubber, timber, tin, iron ore, copper, groundnuts, coal, all worth several TRILLIONS of dollars cumulatively in today's money.

And with all that money they built you ONE university.

ONE.

It wasn't actually a full-fledged university, so technically they built none.

In a hundred years!

How many have we built in just 60 years of independence?

200+ universties.

Yet to YOU, the British did more.

Because your head is still COLONISED by them, although they left physically.

Many of our professors and professionals today were educated by the colonial masters. Then Nigerians didn't need visa to travel abroad and many were offered scholarships to study in choice universities abroad.

Mumu. ''Choice universities abroad''.

Why didn't the British use your trillions of dollars worth of resources to build ''choice universities'' in Nigeria?

Were your illiterate grandparents not worthy to have ''choice universities'' despite their resources being stolen?

Infrastructures done by colonial masters were of high quality. Those roads and bridges constructed by the British colonial leaders stood the test of time.

Which roads?

Where are the roads? Did they disappear?

Your first expressway was built in the 1970s by the Gowon administration.

In 1960, a FOOTPATH led to your village, not a road. Not even a 'bad' road.

FOOTPATH.

BICYCLES were the most common form of transport after walking, under British rule,

Cars were very few, and only for the super rich.

Today, courtesy of Nigerian rule, you can drive by car to the remotest village in Nigeria.

Our people got the best of healthcare as British doctors were the ones in charge of healthcare. Same British doctors were the ones who later trained our people on orthodox medicine which then replaced our crude and ineffective traditional medicine practice.

You CRETIN.

Infant mortality rate in 1955 was over 250 per thousand compared to 57 per thousand today, as shown by this SHOCKING GRAPH from Statista:

https://www.statista.com/statistics/1073200/infant-mortality-rate-nigeria-historical/

Where are the hospitals they built?

Name them.

Did they disappear?

South Africa is much more developed today than Nigeria because the colonial masters stayed longer there compared to Nigeria that hurriedly got Independence only for our evil and selfish politicians to start looting our common wealth instead of developing the country.

Firstly the only reason you are not a village illiterate palm wine tapper like your immediate forbears under colonial rule, was that NIGERIANS CAME TO POWER AND BUILT THE SCHOOLS THAT EDUCATED YOUR PARENTS AND YOURSELF.

Secondly, SOUTH AFRICA is only developed today because the European invaders considered it ''their'' country, and so did not simply LOOT THE NATION and send the proceeds to their home country, as happened with other black colonies like NIGERIA,

So as early as the 1870s they had already built universities, power plants and other major infrastructure, such that by the 1940s, South Africa was virtually a developed country!

If the British were not criminal looters, Nigeria would have been a developed nation like South Africa well before 1960.

Instead we had a BIG FAT BUSH WITH NAKED CHILDREN RUNNING AROUND AND MALNUTRITION, MASS POVERTY AND ILLITERACY.

Your grandparents could not JAPA from their farms because they were illiterate and had no such option.

They didn't even know what an airport was.

The fact you can even think of JAPA today is because NIGERIAN LEADERS educated you and exposed you after the British were driven out.

Sometimes, I wish that the colonial masters stayed longer in Nigeria. I'm sure the country would have been better than it is today.

Are you aware the British did not build ONE power plant in Nigeria?

They imported industrial generators to temporarily power the areas they lived in, like Ikoyi and the various GRA's they built for themselves.

Nigerians lived by candle and lamp. They didn't use generators, firstly because they couldn't afford them, and secondly because their houses were not even wired, as there was no national grid!

Our first power plant was Kainji Dam commissioned by the Balewa administration in 1964.

So Access To Electricity was under 2% at independence, compared to 62% today, and rising.

You reason the way you reason because you are under a British occult spell.
