Edo 2024: PDP appeal panel recommends political solution to party crisis

The crisis may affect the PDP’s chances of winning the forthcoming governorship election in the state.

The Seriake Dickson-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) appeal panel into the ward congress election in Edo State has called for a political solution to the crisis in the party.

The panel, however, shelved calls for the cancellation of the controversial election.

This was contained in the report of the panel dated 9 February and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, on Monday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that some of the aspirants had kicked against the exercise, saying it was not free and fair.

The panel’s report submitted to the National Working Committee (NWC) acknowledged the petition by nine aggrieved aspirants and confirmed that the results from all 192 wards were signed by only two persons.

The report was sent through the National Organising Secretary.

It noted the confirmation that the chairperson of the three-man ward congresses Ad hoc committee, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State and its secretary, Paschal Adigwe, signed the results from the ward.

It further observed the complaints of the aspirants that they were not carried along and did not participate in the ward election.

The panel, however, expressed concerns that the party could not afford the cancellation of the election, saying that based on electoral laws there would be no time for a fresh election.

The panel further observed that even a fresh election may not be acceptable to others

They, therefore, called for a political solution involving “all stakeholders”, including the Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki.

NAN reports that members of the panel included Maryam Ciroma and Akilu Sani Indabawa.

The report of the panel was signed by all three members.

Obviously it'll be fight to finish. But if the Dan Orbih faction truly loves the party, a deputy governor slot should suffice for a start.

How can the nine aspirants say they were not carried along? We all saw how Seyi Makinde who is a puppet in the hands of Wike declined the chairmanship position of the committee and the other nine openly boycotted the primaries because according to them, the committee was made up of people from Edo and Delta State.
Now they are saying they weren't carried along.

This is how failure starts. Before you know it, they will lose the election and start looking for who to blame

I think in my opinion it serves both Dan Orbhi and deputy governor right. They were all warned in 2020 before they took Obaseki in. Wike who supported the move is now regretting. I am glad Obaseki did not disappoint to show his true colour. Hahahaha

Dan Orbhi and the rest of the PDP Ẹdo state Exco's all cashed out anyway so they don't really care. If anyone thinks Ọbasẹki is bothered about PDP or Ẹdo state then they are very naive indeed.

You are right though, treachery is his middle name. Once his tenure ends, I doubt he'll come back to the state even for a flying visit.

Such a shame that APC fielded the equally useless Pastor Ize Iyamu last time against him. In fact, a useless gorvenor like Ọbasẹki winning reelection suggests Ẹdo state is sadly full of jokers. Thankfully a higher calibre of people are competing this time round all across the board.

Obaseki should let Dan Orbih's faction produce the deputy governor.
