Belial06: It's is the best thing to happen to the country because that is what has direct impact on the citizens. How can you pad subsidy? It has never been in our budget. Running a government is not simple. It's not everything that is made public. Do you know how many times Buhari said he has ended subsidy? It's IMF that always say he has not because government furnish them all their financial data for analysis before they can borrow them money. 2 Likes |

Chicagograduate:what is the population of those opec countries and compare it with Nigeria. You can then extrapolate that those countries oil export far outweigh all their domestic imports and that is the difference. If you want to run a sought of welfare capitalism then tax rate should go as high as 60% and a very high tax to Gdp ratio. You don't expect other countries to borrow you money especially tax payers and you then sink into your own subsidies that is a ceasepool of corruption without any available reasonable way to pay back. Primarily The reason why Nigerian Bond are rated junk. Subsidy on health, primary and secondary education, agricultural subsidies are beneficial for society. Subsidising businesses with exemption of R and D makes them lazy and inefficient cannot compete globally as thier are no incentive to improve efficiency 1 Like |

Africans and foreign validation. So you need a foreign entity to tell you subsidy has come back as against your countries. Same foreign institutions that have wrecked the economies of many African countries. That is how celebrities carried themselves to USA. Grammy used them for free publicity and gave our girl from South Africa that is not even equal to an average artist in Nigeria, Grammy. I do not rate all this foreign institutions, they are all after their interest. 1 Like |

The hard truth is... Fuel is still being subsidized. These people will lie their way through 2 terms in that office, and hand over an irreparable nation to another misfit. |

Nonsense reports! Questions for Daily Trust and it's anti- govt crews is that - when did IMF ever see anything good in Nigeria govt, the moment they are not give free hand of operations and in fact any 3rd World Country Economy? IMF and World Bank can't see anything good, than for such govt they believed in to: 1. Tax the People, 2.ensure Regular Raw Materials for their host developed Countries, 3.they are actually the lead of the most developed Countries but they are quick to Loan other Developing Countries Money,so as to make these developing Countries poor! 4.both the IMF and World Bank as sister Company knows well that most developing Countries have serious foundations or fundamental and chronic Economic issues and will device situation that you can't get out after their prescription the moment you get their facilities! |

CodeTemplar:You and who agreed on floating of naira? You must be a comedian. Did Angola not remove subsidy? Did they remove it at once and did you hear their people go hungry and protesting like our people as seen nationwide? Let me remind you of something you've been blinded by this your mentor not to see. Jonathan didn't just wake up to remove subsidy. He had already put enough palliatives in place. I remember the sure-p programme which was what the proceeds of the subsidy was centered on. What did Tinubu and Co do? They stormed the streets and sponsored protests just to gain power. They said subsidy was a scam. Where is the money saved so far from that subsidy since last year? Why are they still paying subsidy they said had gone? You need to go back and think of better ways to defend this clueless man. 3 Likes |

CodeTemplar: Must you defend silly act? Subsidy was slated to stop by July but Tinibu even without consulting stakeholders removed subsidy. It is a foolish act. Consult the stakeholders first, see what is on ground and then know how resolve the trend. He removed subsidy by May and the price of fuel rose from #180 to #650. In August, just two months after he started to pay for the same subsidy which he removed, with pump price still at #650. And as human being you are defending him because he is from your tribe... Everything will be fine. It is the initial GRA GRA to a good but hard economic decision. We are all feeling the pain for the rot our selfish rulers have deeply inserted the nation. Mine is for that subsidy not to come back and that is what is really causing these ripples. Heartless people. |

Bat is simply being a coward and uninterested/ has no sincere plan in developing nigeria. Rather than face the issues that have made subsidy unsustainable, he choose the cowardly route by leaving the masses to the hyenas. Tackle the foundational issues that make subsidy unsustainable as well as the dubious dealings in fx transactions before taking actions that further impoverish the masses. |

oyeb15:You have said it all The govt needs to find a way around reducing pump price, that is the only way to tame this unending inflation to a certain level. Everything depends on transportation to move, if fuel sells at a lower rate, it will go a long way in fighting inflation. There wouldn't have been need removing subsidy, it was a very wrong decision. Nigeria economy was never ripe for such decision. 1 Like 1 Share |
