I laugh you with this your statement... they will soon start doing better than Nigeria b deceiving yourself that we are the giant of Africa.. eyes go soon clear say we dey in deep shit una government wan go or Dan go borrow money again.. yet they will still loot half of this money n so it will continue until something like what transpired in Mali will happen over here.... Remember they removed corrupt old politicians and the old n corrupt members of d ECOWAS wasn't happy. Go n make ur research n u will find out all d sitting presidents of the current ECOWAS members are above 70 years and when they talk they talk slow n don't forget as u get old so does ur body system due else companies won't require old workers to retire but in Africa u need to b 80 years to b a president.

They will not loot half of the loan. Stop misinforming people. The will loot 90% of the money!

And they will still have to use ECOWAS ports, fly through Ecowas countries, depend on ecowas for every aspect of their economy including electricity and education.

Must be nice to live in such grand delusion

By forming a confederation, they've just increased their value, and put themselves in a position of strength. Any country that opens it's ports to them really has a lot to gain.

This is a test of the unity of ECOWAS countries, and indeed the strength of the alliance. Will money win, or will honor win? Only time will tell.

They can easily do their shipping via the northern counties like Libya, Egypt, Algeria and Morocco. And it's even closer to them than the western countries.
Asides shipping, is there any other need they have for the western countries? It's just their shipping ports.
If they put up strong will power, they can work out their new conferedation to become a regional power.

WRONG!

THEY ARE ALREADY BUILDING NUCLEAR POWER STATION.

ECOWAS WILL NEED TO BUY ELECTRICITY FROM DEM.

ALL THAT DESERT MEANS FREE ELECTRICITY WITH SOLAR PANEL.

PLUS NIGER IS BUILDING A DAM.

LIKE I SAID ECOWAS WILL BUY ELECTRICITY FROM THEM IN ANOTHER 10 YEARS, ESPECIALLY NIGERIA.

Normal trick by military juntas to deceive the people. Severing ties with their oppressors is good. However, they can’t hide the fact that the motivation for seizing power is to gain control of the nations wealth for personal aggrandizement. I pity those who feel these guys will do any better. Sooner or later, we would start hearing of repression, victimization, witch-hunts etc all in a bid to hold on to power forever. I only pity Nigeria which have played big brother to these nonentities in the past and intervened to ensure decent living for them through the ECOWAS bloc. Now that Nigeria is facing her problems and probably doesn’t have much charity to make, they feel they can disrespect the country. These are the same countries that for years failed to pay their dues to the ECOWAS. In fact the French West African countries have contributed immensely to the backwardness of ECOWAS in the past. They frustrated the establishment of single currency(eco) in west Africa and also frustrated inter regional and sub-regional trade within member states. The same countries that could not agree as members of G5 Sahel to fight terrorism on a common ground are talking of forming a bloc. Let them go! What have we ever benefited from them? It would be foolish for ECOWAS to persuade them. That useless Benin Republic have shown their true color by aligning with their francophone brothers. God willing we would rise from the ashes into a great nation that we supposed to be. Let us face our own problems and stop playing big brother to these nations. We should build stronger ties with the Anglophone West African countries. At least Guinea showed character by not joining them. This is an opportunity for us to breathe.

For the Electricity part, I think Nigeria will suffer most, here is the reason.

River Niger run across over 5 countries in West Africa, include both of our neighbours countries, such as Benin, Niger and Mali.

Remember, this is a natural resources that any countries can construct Hydro dam on it course within their geographical area.

So, it just matter of time, when Niger, our close neighbouring country construct Hydro dam on it course. it will definitely have adverse effect on our usage in Nigeria.

Lollzzzzz....you guys are clowns.

Niger just built one of the biggest solar farms in Africa and soon will be on the path to uninterrupted power. Nigeria is still struggling with less than 4000MW for a country of 200M people.
These countries are pushing to get a good country while y'all are fronting thieves as your president.

The rest of Africa will soon leave y'all behind.

Misguided elements. What is the foundation for the alliance? Opposition to the insistence that the military focus on defence and not run the government. They will fail. North Korea too far away to make any difference. The people will ultimately rise up against them and do the needful when the suffering becomes unbearable. Folks hardly ever learn from history.

We dont need military coups. Southern African countries never had military juntas, yet they are doing well. What we need is to return back to pre-1967 parliamentary system of government or practice a mixed system of government as is done in the USA. Nigeria is a 3rd world country and very big in terms of population and landmass. This has made governing the country from the centre very hard and impossible. Issues like policing, wealth creation, job creation, criminal laws etc should be handled by the states. They should harness their resources and find investors. They should handle universities, health care and education. The federal government should only concern with national security and national economy. Imagine a state making its anti terrorism and criminal laws to suit prevailing challenges. Imagine a Rivers state handling of ts resources and only paying tax to FG. Zamfara will handle its gold and pay tax etc. That useless mentality of robbing Peter to pay Paul will end and our governors will sit tight and start exploiting their potentials. Youths won’t run to Abuja to look for jobs but rather hold their state governors accountable. Nigeria is too big and so backward to run a presidential system. The FG has too much responsibilities. At least you won’t have to cry that they are releasing terrorists back to society in your state when probably the law proffers death sentence by firing squad. This is the beauty of a State system. Nigerian situation is never hopeless and out of control, just that those in power have failed to do the right things which are not abstract. If Goodluck Jonathan has ensured the passage of CONFAB report, by now, Nigeria would have been over prosperous. Even the electricity we are crying about would be handled by states.

Late Abacha also cutoff Nigeria from the rest of the world...he even stopped Nigeria from participating in the 1996 Africa Nations Cup..

Wetin the country get in return Monumental embezzlement.... Repatriation of Nigeria's wealth overseas...keeping them in various banks in the world.

Na their way.

Abacha never stopped the SE from competing in African Nation Cup.
The problem began with Mandela. South Africa was hosting Miss World that year and Nigeria was one of the contestants. Mandela asked Miss Nigeria to leave because Nigeria was ran by the military.
This angered Abacha and he said Nigeria would not compete in the 1996 tournament hosted in SA unless the venue is changed. This wasn't possible so Nigeria did not attend.
So, Abacha wasn't at fault. Blame Mandela for kissing the West a$$.
