In an important operation aimed at curbing smuggling and its impact on the escalating prices of commodities, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has seized 15 trucks loaded with food items in Sokoto State. The operation, disclosed by Abubakar Chafe, the spokesperson for the NCS Sokoto Command, took place on Saturday, February 17, 2024, along the Gwadabawa-Illela road.

The decision to intercept these vehicles was informed by the substantial quantities of farm produce they were transporting, indicating potential smuggling activities. The trucks are currently being held by the command as investigations are underway to determine the ownership and intended destinations of the seized food items.

This collaborative effort involved the NCS Sokoto command, the federal operation unit, and the intelligence unit of the service, highlighting the comprehensive approach taken by the NCS to address the issue. The operation underscores the service's commitment to mitigating the inflationary pressures on food items in Nigeria by preventing smuggling activities that contribute to rising commodity costs.

North and hypocrisy. You engage in agricultural projects with the country's finances, then out of sentiments send it to Niger Republic that they are more next of kin than Southern Nigerian, yet you all wanted to die for same religion ticket. The hypocrisy in the north stinks to hell. Since you hate the southerners so badly, please call for referendum so you can go attach to your Niger Republic in peace

Hehehe.

Other African countries now see Nigeria as a place to get cheaper food because our currency is very weak. They come and buy food in large quantities back to their countries.

The farmers on the other hand believe they will get a better bargain from foreigners. They said these foreigners don't price too much, and in most cases they don't even inspect the bags as Nigerians do.

This would have been a blessing to Nigeria if the government did their home work well.

Had it been that farmers were secured enough, they would have cultivated more and gotten enough harvest, and we would have been supplying food to other countries.

No matter how we want to see it, insecurity lead us to where we are today. These farmers have been complaining. They pay in millions to bandits during planting and harvest. They must add all those money they paid to these bandits, they can't sell at lost.

It's easy to accuse farmers of sabotage, but remember they are also business men, they aim to maximize profit too.

As we speak, nothing has been done about insecurity in Nigeria. Farmers are still paying heavily to bandits and we expect a different result next time.

If the remote cause is not urgently addressed
This year challenges will look like a child's play next year. All these propaganda won't be able to help next year.

angry I, went out this morning to check a land sold yesterday close to mine. met hauwa woman this morning, she was plugging a grass seeds.. I asked her what will she use it for (I was thinking it was for medicinal purpose). She said they will fry and eat it, she continued that during buhari military regime, dey parent ate the leaf, for Dem it's d seed. shocked. I asked her again, if the seed is exhausted. What will they eat during rainy season? I got imagining how weed(unwanted plant) will not allow to grow again. I thank God that am a northener but a christain one, at least amidst the hate, we are doing well.

Share the food to the locals

Give out anonymous phone numbers to people to report food hoarding, food smuggling, naira hoarding, dollars hoarding.Promise rewards, disseminate information in local languages.

Legislate whistleblowers protection act.
All those hidden dollars will cast.
All the smugglers wil cast.
All hoarders will cast.
All money laundering will cast.

Let the citizens know they can contribute against the corruption, it shouldn't be just the authorities.

This is very bad, you collect grant from government to help in your agriculture yet you smuggle these farm produce out of the country thereby causing food scarcity and high price for people.

Maybe they should conduct a referendum for them to join Niger Republic.

Killer herdsmen won't allow middle belt farm in peace but the crops they grow in Core North they sell to their brothers.
