Very stupid idea, why not emulate obasanjo and build his type of farm in your state that will employ over 20k youths and equaly produce enough food for ur citizens instead of embarking on a foolish policy that will favor few of ur party members.

The farm is under construction, visited Cotonou on his first month in office for that purpose

For those that don't know, the massive construction site at nsit ubium on uyo road is the farm.

So say another stupid thing.

I guess your suggestion should be a long term goal which can start concurrently with this one, what he wants to do is commendable in the short term considering the current situation of things

As a matter of fact, ALL Governors in the Southern part of the country should go by your suggestion as well as what Governor Umo Eno wants to do now

People will love this but it will cause a problem in the long term. There is no increase in supply of food. Just using government money to buy in bulk and drive prices up for other states.
Subsidies are simply not sustainable. A sustainable move will be to use that money for mechanized farming that will employ people, produce more food and naturally reduce food prices (due to increased supply).

ONLY increase in supply of food will reduce prices.
You are correct that it is not sustainable. However, this is just an emergency option. What people need now is food to sustain them during this period of hardship. Nobody is ready to wait till the food grows before they eat.

If Obasanjo farm is as productive as you make it seems, then Ogun state won't have any concern bout hunger. Ogun state was where the protest took off

He has his own farming policy. If you want to farm in Akwa ibom now, free machines. Just fuel it. Subsized farm lease.

How many is Obasanjo farm feeding Ogun state.

Ogun has more farms than Obasanjo but the state still lack cheap food.

Serious? So, an agro company can hire those machines on lease to work on a farmland in Akwa Ibom State?

I don’t understand this our leader , them Dey smoke ? . Aw can u decided to go to market and tell them the price they shud sell when u are not making the food process available for the marketers , no good road to take the food from rural area to urban area , no electricity for farmer , no security for farmer and many more , and u just wake up to fix a price of commodities, this pple no get sense ?

He wants to establish a " state bulk purchase agency ", so the state can like apply economics of scale to purchase food products, and then can afford to sell at relatively lower prices to the masses.

The way some of you make false and bold claims makes you sound foolish, but you have no one to tell you.
Who told you that Obasanjo employs 20,000 people on his farm ?

Great move Mr governor ,
My take is simply increase agro production, processing and supply before these,
Let's imagine having 360 clusters in 4 senatorial district.Giving rural f@rmers Direct access to improved seedlings ,ImPRoved varieties, encouraging carbon trading, green precision farming by farmers .fertilisers, tractors and processing hubs, marketing will be made easy, price control boards created virtually and physically. We can be great again.
Akwa Ibom must be great again!

Press Release

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, true to his people -centric ways and commitment to seeing to the amelioration of the plight of the people has stated that the Bill for the establishment of the State Bulk Purchasing Agency, which is currently in the House of Assembly, is meant to ensure that the price of staple food items are within the reach of the people.

“We will buy the food items in bulk and ensure that they are made available to our people at relatively lower prices. The process will be transparent.

“I want to thank the House of Assembly for the expeditious manner this Bill is being treated. I want to assure our people that we feel their pain and are working hard to ensure that food security for our people is guaranteed.

“ That’s why they voted for me overwhelmingly and as you know, I came from this stock and I feel their pain completely.

“ I appeal to our people to exercise patience while the House of Assembly is working to pass the Bill, which would be immediately signed into law by me” the Governor had stated while fielding questions from Government House Correspondents.

Good move, Mr governor. Just ensure that while you're on this, have it in mind to do/encourage mechanized farming. The abundance of food will drive down the price of food drastically. cool

Always say what u kno, akwa Ibom state has good road so bad road ain't a disadvantage to this. The move is quite ok as some marketers always take opportunity in every little things, why should pure water be sold for 50box per sachet for instance
Re: Gov Eno’s Bold move to reduce the Prices of Staple Food in Akwa Ibom State by MasterTeeUSA: 4:52pm On Feb 20
I agree...if these Govs start clearing forest for planting....prices of food will begin to drop...what are they doing with all the money they collect...clear or buy lands directly from landowners...you make your people rich, then make those lands state lands...clear them and fence them...you will automatically have access to land for investors to come in and use...then lease the land for Agriculture...and the states will be making money annually.

For example: Buy 1,000 hectares of land for N1m per hectare...that is N1billion
Fence it around...spend another N2billion
Allocate 1 hectare each for Agriculture for N100k bringing in N100m a year
Regulate and tax the produce, flood the market....

Rinse and Repeat...Govt can also sponsor or look for sponsors to pay the first year lease for some farmers.

Landowners will also make money and they can relocate or move to the cities. Make the Kings the custodians...they get 10% of annual lease money.

Mr criticism, you’re criticizing without giving constructive solutions or remedy. The state wants to subsidize food for its citizens you’re here saying it’s a stupid idea.
how will they subsidise? Why will farmer sell for 5k when he can sell for 10k in the market or govt will be seizing ppls sweat? What will they size when farmers stop producing due to govt theft? Do you think before you support failed govt policy?
