When we told you guys years ago that dangote is not a businessman you guys called it hate speech. Now his government given monopoly that made him the richest man is hunting the govt and the citizens.

It's just cement for now, soon salt will join.

We see further than you people.

The man still has case to answer.. how he was getting dollars from Emefiele at far lesser rate than official rate.

The problem of naira losing value at blackmarket is because the Northerners have stockpiled dollars and are dictating the rate, still making massive gain by selling dollar at high rates. None of our neighboring countries are having price fall in their currency, only Nigeria due to gross mismanagement of the economy by previous administration.

simple economics pls can u explain how it will worsen it

.......cause I remember in economics when there is excess supply over demand the excess abnormal price will fall back to it's equilibrium position ...due to forces of the invisible hands ......so pls explain ur own economics to me .......thus based of the foregoing opening of the border will act as curative measure to the hyper or galloping inflation currently destroying the currency......

When food full markets no body go force tht stupid mama emeka to reduce her stupid price she selling her stupid garri..........oga the purchasing power index will bring more surplus (budget surplus )...........

Cement, Rice, beans,poultry, fish.
All will be cheaper when imported even at the current exchange rate.
Some of these commodities are smuggled in from the neighbouring countries, labeled made in Nigeria and sold at exorbitant prices.
A smart Government will open up our borders

I still don't know why the govt is hesitant and relunctant to open land borders, what is left to lose

Policies are meant to be Review, when our land borders were open, was the cost of living & naira value these bad and ever since we decided to ply on reinstating local production what have Nigerians gain .. its being one bad news to the others cos aside high cost of production Nigeria are generally selfish.

Just keep kwayet.
You think the minister wouldn't have done price surveys before coming out to say this.

What the government need more is to open the border for food items to teach those who taught they can hold Nigeria to ransom a lesson

The same price survey they did on the Dollar v Naira abi?

Una deserve everything wey una dey see.
Re: FG Threatens To Open Border For Cement Importation by optimusprime2(m): 6:08pm On Feb 20
Why won't the USD hit the sky against the Naira, if the only way to address a supplier/market challenge is by imposing import threats... imagine?

This a smart move to shame the Northern cement cabals

He "Tinubu" should have done this from the first day.

Declare State of emergency on food and security.

Then open border for foreign rice. Give it 72hrs rice from China, Thailand etc will floored Lagos.

Have a close door meeting with Army Chief, plan death sentence by firing squad to anybody involves in banditry, kidnapping, boko Haram in Nigeria.

Conspicuously, confront him and push him to senate for public hearing just as he brought Asari. Ask him what next to do to tackle insecurity then he (CSO) will declare war on bandits.

Do you think God will be happy with you using such words on an elder?

If you get offended with my reply, plz am so sorry

These people are truly senseless in all ways.

At what exchange rate will the importers be bringing in the cement?

Confused Moronns in power.

This is so true. This administration is 100% clueless. How else are they not supposed to know even when boarders are open for importation of cement, are they buying with naira from another country or in the currency of the foreign country im buying from.

How would a reasonable leader take that as a strength or punishment tool the government can use to scare the association of cement in Nigeria.

It’s really sad. We are in trouble in this country.

Oh my God. Can such impunity happen in China or USA without those govts shutting down such saboteur factories immediately. undecided

Nigeria is not the only country "importing", benine republic import far more than Nigeria yet there economy is not in comatose

Us is the largest Net Importer of finsihed goods,

Importing is a problem but how we spend dollar within our economy is even the bigger problem, Nigerians now prefer to save there money in dollars in a Naira economy.

level of confident in a currency is what kills it or strengthens it

No na ......when you decide to hoard ur good despite being of an inelastic nature ......when aggregate supply exceeds aggregate demand .....due to market surplus ur MR (marginal revenue will be less than ur MC ....marginal cost ) based on. This ....u will be forced to sell ....during surplus ....price will fall .... hoarding of good will either backfire the seller since he need to wait for a long time before he can make profit ........trust me if the border is open give this inflation 3 months food prices will fall

Is it not better to import cement at the exchange rate where it'll be affordable to an extent than to be buying locally produced cement at 12 - 15k?.

Pride they say goes before a fall.. that Dangote wants to use pride to kill his business.

Rest.. BUA is even selling at a higher price..

With $1 going for N1826

And will reach 2k in less than a week..it can never be cheaper than the locally made ones..

It is rampant corruption that crippled good policies and not that the policies are intrinsically bad in themselves.

Devaluing the naira without a strong export base will always hurt. It will surely create the imbalance we are seeing now in inflation.

China, in competition with the US, usually devalues to attract cheap exports. Its export base is strong.
